Agreed, but the pressure from the media certainly contributed. Believe me, I am not trying to take free will from the women who killed herself, but I do understand that the media already convicting her had at least something to do with it.

I'm sure the police and the disappearance of her son had far more to do
with it than the media... her life seemed like it was one joyous event
after another

Like the anthony case, this one was suspicous as well. Perhaps she killed herself because of the media. Or, perhaps she killed herself because she actually did it and knew she was going to get caught. What I was getting at is the media was already convicting her without knowing all the details.

While it may be suspicious, in my opinion, the media should cover these things(all things really) without injecting their personal thoughts. Just cover the details, don't convict someone on national television.

Compounded circumstantial evidence IS enough to convict and people are routinely convicted on circumstantial evidence when presented in enough volume.

The amount of evidence the prosecution presented that was circumstantial was enough to convict several times over in my opinion after studying for only 4 years of law. This was not enough because prosecution didn't take care of loose ends, so the circumstantial evidence loses much of it's validity and power.  (I am not an expert by any means, but I am confident enough in my opinion to call her guilty if I was on the jury),.

Scott Peterson in California who killed preg wife was all circumstantial evidence. Now he is on death row. Thi

well, as the one jurist has spoken out said, to paraphrase, 'What was the cause of death?  How can we convict someone when the cause of death is unknown AND we don't know her motivation?'

The prosecution failed because the evidence was very, very weak.  Period.  You should study law more.

Alright, i'll throw this question out ONE time.

How many people here who know she's guilty actually sat in on even ONE day of court time. Heard ONE persons full recounting and testimony in the way the jury did? Talked with ONE person who was even remotely close to ANY member of the family, jury, courtroom, police on site, security ect.

Now, how many people have just watched a lot of TV and heard a lot of 5th hand information, filtered news reports, and jaded journalists who just wanted another death sentence baby killer so they could talk about it for another day on air?

I, like i imagine everyone else here, fits in with the second group.

I'm not saying she's guilty, I'm not saying she's innocent. I'm saying that everyone who does not fit into that first column has no real right whatsoever to say she "got away with murder"

She was tried by a jury and a judge, and she was found innocent.

No, they said that though they were 99.99% sure she was guilty, the .01% is pretty significant when it comes to someone's life.

they really should have got her for some other stuff, she deserves at least another 3-5 years, then again maybe they can charge her for that later on?  it would kinda be a seperate issue so not sure if they can or not.

in anycase this is how the law should work, u don't have evidence to prove beyond a doubt then no conviction simple as that, but like others have mentioned it would be nice if that applied to every court room

people get convicted for "intent" to do alot of things, why not convict her for intent to be a bad parent resulting in all of this

Ah, my apologies for those two. It's just ridiculous for me to see the same kind of feeding frenzy mentality here on the shroomery as i do on TV and EVERYWHERE else. And this was the case FAR before the actual Case began.

edit: maybe not the case on the shroomery! i don't know about that, but as far as the rest of the "Mediaz" concerned, she's been guilty for 3 years.

It seems that there are two opinions on this--those people who post on EMOTION that yea, we all know, she is a fucked up poo-bah who is a pathological liar, etc, a terrible person, she should be punished...

and we have the 'There is NO clear cause of death or motivation for the defendants behavior--it is INSUFFICIENT to produce a guilty verdict of first degree murder with death penalty implications.

The prosecution strategy should have been: Try the case for child abuse/neglect (because she didn't report it) and then continue to investigate the case for murder, etc.

Another case that comes to mind is the Klaus Van Bulow case, in the 80's.  I was going to college and watched almost all of it on CNN.  THe same situation--he was found not guilty, people were outraged, yet I felt the same--the prosecution presented weak circumstantial evidence that had a lot of holes in it.  They didn't convince me, they didn't convince the jury that he had killed her. 

OUr system worked.  No one should be sentenced to death because of weak evidence.  OUr system is based ON THE RULE OF LAW and not EMOTION.
