I'm 21 and want to learn how to skateboard.

I was a roller blader when I was young because a garbage truck ran over my skateboard.

What are some opinions on skateboarding?

I can't even stand on one. I tried, seemed like I was at high risk of falling off before even moving.

Skateboarding would be great exercise.

I don't like playing basketball bc getting man sweat mixed with mine is really gross.

I don't like running outside bc it hurts my knees and you see people you know.

I don't like running in a gym bc it's air conditioned.

Roller skating looks fucking gay.

I just got a nice board from a dumpster yesterday, this is the only reason I posted this thread.

I got a board, basic bullshit burton.

Yeah, I swear I will bleed if i even look at one. I love watching people skate though, I've always had friends that did.

I swear some of the tricks that get pulled off defy logic. There has to be magnets in the boards and shoes right?

actually no my job is only 36 hours a week and private is too expensive.

I just want to be able to kick flip and 180.  Maybe once in a while I'll pop a shove-it.

If I like cruising around maybe I'll get a long board.

Expect to hurt your knees...and ankles...and feet...and nuts ( if applicable ) their a bitch for transportation unless you get a short or long board with the fat polyurethane wheels you need good wheels if you don't have nice pavement to ride on as well. If your just tryin to kick push around and learn ollies and kickflips and such thank a regular deck and wheels is fine carving or transit needs the prementioned wheels

Skating is the shit. I wish I were still any good, but I don't have the spare money to throw away on shoes + a new board. You should definitely give it a shot though. I'd recommend starting with a blank deck and some blank wheels just to save some cash. There's a lot of different bearing brands; I always used Black Panthers but I'm not sure what's good/cheap these days. I've tried a few different brands of trucks, but everyone seems to like something different. There's also more brands than when I used to skate. I'd ask the dude at the skate shop to help you out but some staple brands are Independent, Destructo, Grind King, Tensor (I think I had a friend who skated Tensors once and didn't like them, but IDK).

I just found this one in a dumpster last night and was gonna sell it for 10.  Metal trucks, the tape is bran new and it looks like its got a lot of life back.

I found it in a pore nieghborhood and I bet some gang banger stole it from a skater, then got evicted:rolleyes:

The bearings are quick and I almost busted my ass a couple times but I can get used to things easy, I'm good at mastering shit like this.  It will take time but this shit would be fun to do in different hoods once I get good.

It took me like a year to learn how to kickflip but once I did, I became addicted. After that tricks should start coming to you quickly. It hurts when you fall but its totally worth the pain to learn how to fly! :trippinballs:

i never practiced how to do kickflips so i was ollieing 7 sets and grinding stuff but i couldnt kickflip

so after i quit for three years, im just now learning how
