How old are you?
I feel embarrassed but the shirtless guys who are 50 and run with their skin flapping should prove me wrong.

Just went on a 10 minutes ride around the park. Lol it was when I started but I got down the riding part good by the end.
If I put in a half hour a day instead of running I'm gonna be a god.
Shin splints suck though, I need better shoes.

keep in mind you can adjust your trucks to make your "suspension" tighter or looser. If you're more comfortable lifting up the nose to change direction, you can tighten the trucks to make balancing easier. If you'd rather turn by leaning to one side or the other, you can loosen your trucks for that, but keep in mind the board will feel more wobbly, especially at high speeds.
good luck bromethius.

Get a longboard instead, just be ready to invest in $200-300 for quality.

What are some opinions on skateboarding?
Trick skating, pools, slalom, sliding, downhill, what is it that you are wanting to get into?

I used to skateboard when I was younger, but then I got into parkour.
Some people find doing heelflips easier than kickflips. Pop shove its are probably the easiest first trick to get down. 180's are almost as easy. Pop shove it tail grab (where you grab what becomes your nose) is probably the easiest trick to learn that actually makes you look like a "badass"
One tip is when landing your tricks, bend at the knees to lower your center of gravity so it stays with the board. This prevents from you landing on the board, and shooting it off in one direction, while your upper body goes flying in the other direction.
I also prefer tighter trucks, and would recommend it to others, generally. You can be more prone to injuring your ankles if your trucks are really loose; at least from my experience.

i recently got a longboard and i used to skate about ten years ago. but wtf is it hard to slow down because it has no tail on it.
i live in a town full of hills too so its pretty much useless if i cant slow down and avoid dying.
i just been using my bike to cruise arond on lately because brakes are nice.
any tips for slowing down on longboards? besides going from stand to sitting and using your feet.

Do yourself a favour.. don't skate, the injuries outweigh the short lived glory
It looks fun because professionals make it look easy, its actually one of the hardest extreme sports Ive done, Ive skated for 5-6 years and broken a leg and arm in the process
and guess what, all those badass tricks you learn in the summer, for the first couple years you lose it all, or most of it after every winter
You gotta skate religiously to be a pro, and if you aren't a pro, or can't fake looking pro then you look like a noob and its more embarrassing than anything,

I know I used to roller blade for 5 years but I would never want to go to a skate park being this old (unless I could back flip and sht). That's why skateboarding would be pretty cool, you can get around town, meet cool people in different hoods and have the skater attitude if people give you shit.
Even if you suck it's still a way of smoking up with people and possibly getting new connects.
Just an idea.. If I can't pop shove it in a week I'm just going to sell this board.
I would hate to say I can only ollie

It's just another skill that some people try and practice and others like me can just kind of sloppily go forward, until that little pebble hits the wheels. Basically like riding a bike you have to practice enough to learn the balance and feel of it. If I where to jump on a board and go forward, every push with my one foot would throw my balance off. The rest of the body does not know how to react to compensate for the movement. I am sure I had a skateboard and used it daily it would soon come second nature as far as basic use goes. Tricks... that's another thing.
The swimming thing blows my mind. Of course I have been around water since I was four years old, kind of the same with a bike.

Umm, I learned to kickflip about 18 years ago, and I can still kickflip today.
a kickflip is hardly a trick
I mean varials, frontside flips, 360 flips, hardflips
real tricks dawg

flash fail.
I know when I see a dude skating with his head phones on he is in the zone. I wouldn't say it's like a I want to fight attitude, it's the same as snowboarding.

so that doesn't change what I said does it? You lose all those tricks you learn during the first couple years and have to relearn after winter ( for the first couple years) , I didnt say you have to relearn them everytime you get on the board..
