Golden Oysters
    #1447549 -

So, this i am putting together a little booth at a local public outreach event. The booth is on mushrooms and fungi: about them, what they are used for, how they are easy to grow in the yard, using fungi in education and so on. This allowed me to get my hands on a "nice" environmental chamber with air, temp, and humidity control so that I could have samples of various mushrooms fruiting. Mostly of course I did oyster, but I tried some other stuff like ganoderma, Polyporous tuberaster, and Trametes versicolor. With the growth chamber getting them to fruit was pretty easy, they just had to be "on time" .

There were problems of course, the cooling fan blew a few time and temp went way up, it was supposed to be fifty, but it was around 80. This forced fruiting of the tropical P. djamor and P. citronpileatus about 1.5 wks ahead of shcedule. What a bitch. Every thing seems to have worked out fine though, and all the others fruitied just a tad early. This weekend is the festival and I have P. djamor, P. citronpileatus, P, ostreatus, P. pulmonarious, H. ulmarius, and Trametes versiclor for display. It was fun playing with the env. chamber!

Here are some picks of one species. You'll know it. More will follow.

What a beautiful bouquet.

I'm sick of golden oysters.. the smell gets to me now. They remind me almost of bacteria smell.

Hey, you know. Those oysters are the one I got from you, thanks. I cannot take credit for the growth chamber thought. It is a professional chamber, costs as much as a car. That is one reason I volunteered to do the booth....I wanted to play with something that I will likely never own....But like I said it did give me some trouble with timing the fruiting.

Wow Im glad you said this bc I was beginning to worry about my first GO block. Ive had it in my fruiting chamber for a couple days now. Ive grown other oyster varieties and am very accustomed to the usual peppery smell of oysters. The goldens were really throwing me off until I read this post haha 😅. Phew.
