Yep.  Insert windows machine in trash receptacle then buy a Mac.  :super:

That error you keep getting sounds like a bad copy of XP.

Just my thought. The computer should make it to the partitioning screen even if you needed raid drivers. Sounds like a bad copy of XP, or XP can't read the filing system from your Vista install.

I know the copy of XP isn't bad. I tried three different versions (SP1, SP2, and SP3), Home and Professional, and all of them gave me the same error.

With linux is it easy to get around compatibility issues? My main concern is being able to run Ableton.

What is the SPECIFIC error it's giving you.... at what point??
Are you still stuck with the original error of asking to install drivers during the OS install? Telling us they all give you the same error and not saying what the error is does not help.
You are on 64 Bit Vista and trying to install XP 32bit or what?? What drivers are you trying to add? The only drivers you should have to inject into a XP install like that is RAID drivers.

Downloading and clean installing Win7 is your best bet, for whatever problem you have, which I can't really decipher after reading this whole thread.

Vista just plain sucks, and XP is good and all but is not that good for compatibility/driver issues.. 7 is way better all around.

What's the problem?? Use something like imgburn to create a bootable disc... can you burn dvds?

This is the error that I'm still getting:

I'm not sure if the windows XP version I'm trying to boot is 32bit or 64bit, it doesn't specify on the CD. I'm currently running vista64

Do you think the XP setup could be encountering a problem because it doesn't recognize some of my hardware? So could Win7 possibly not encounter the same problem?

I've been trying to utilize the Toshiba Recovery partition that is SUPPOSED to be on my laptop, but it's looks like it was deleted somehow, because it's not there. And I can't find the Toshiba recovery disc creator either.
Is there somewhere I could torrent the Toshiba recovery disc for my specific model?
Basically right now I'm trying to recover my laptop back to factory settings. Once I've done that, I'm trying to revert it back to XP. If it wont revert back to XP still, I may look at installing an OS of Linux, or installing Win7.

The XP version you have is almost assuredly 32-bit, to go from a 64-bit OS to 32-bit would require a clean format of the HD. If you are getting that BSOD everytime you try to install XP, it could be related to 50 different things, drivers or hardware..but does your Vista install still work? Try looking in the BIOS under OnChip SATA Type or SATA controller and if this is set to AHCI set it to IDE. If that doesn't work you might have to slipstream the raid drivers onto a custom disc but that's just a pain in the ass just to install XP.

If that doesn't work your best is probably going to be *obtaining* Win7 64 and trying a clean install of that and see if works which it most likely will. Seriously though, go with Windows7 over XP.
