So, when is it easiest to get contaminated??? While your inoculating the honey water jar? Or from the honey jar into your syringes??

This may belong in its own topic, but oh well. What if you took a piece of a colonized cake, chopped it up like in funkyballoon's tissue culter tek, and put it with some h2o2 to kill some of the nasties, and threw that in with the honey water. that way you wouldn't have to wait for the spores to germinate, and contam rate should theoretically go down. any thought? critisisms? i think i may try it outLink ------------------ How I wish that somewhere there existed an island for those who are wise and of good will. -Albert Einstein

that way works too of course. but that is cloning. after a clone or 2, the myc. will lose vigor and you must re-start from spores anyway.------------------ Visit http://www.drooldonkey.org Global Psychedelic Community, Forums & Chat, Teks & Tips.

I'm still new to growing, but I gave the honey tek a shot, and lo and behold, it worked. I also tried the mushroom-in-a-blender tek, and it also worked! (I didn't think I'd get them right on the first try...) The jars took a week to start showing any growth, but they're doing very well now after 3 weeks. However one small problem is that the solution I suck into my syringe seems to be uneven in its mycelium distribution. Not very homogeneous. I say this because even though all my jars are now growing, about 30% of my innoculation sites completely failed (using about 2-3 ccs per site). This is creating some annoying uneven growth in some jars. So... before filling the syringe, with the honey tek, do you first vigorously shake up the jar? And with the mushroom-in-a-blender tek, once the h202 is added, the mycelium floats to the surface. This makes it difficult to suck up. Any suggestions?

it may help to include a penny in the jar when you prepare it. this might help to break up the mycellial clumps. a few seconds in the blender will do the same. i use filter disks on the jars instead of lids then pour off most of the water, leaving a very concentrated solution. a few drops will work 100%. otherwise, just try to suck up the myc. while leaving most of the water behind. this tek works because it essential multiplies a few hundred cells (spores) into millions of cells. this is not cloning, it is true multi-spore germination. the jar/culture will die after eating the sugar but one can just inject a syringe full into fresh jars of honey water to extend lifespan.
