Trollin' the media, this Bicycle Day!

So, we've all probably heard some of the myriad of drug myths and propaganda out there...
There's even probably still some of us spouting the crap that's been disproven time and time again.

Ever been with a group of friends who insist that there is Strychnine in either mushrooms or LSD, and that it stays in your spine forever and can cause seizures and all sorts of things?

Or, heard that a friend of a friend is in a mental asylum because he thinks he's a glass of orange juice and is worried about being tipped over?

Some gang has a hazing ceremony of putting LSD on public phone buttons, and there are kid's tattoos being sold in school laced with drugs. 

You are legally insane if you have LSD 7 times and mushrooms make your brain bleed.. oh and they inspired the mushrooms in Mario, of course.


We've all heard them before, all the rumours, all the myths.

BICYCLE DAY!  1943 - 2011 and counting!

Today, we celebrate the day that Albert Hoffman had that first fateful trip, and thus the resurgence of the psychedelics in popular and western culture.
Whether you're celebrating with a bike ride, trip, both or neither today, I hope you have a good day, and take some time to think about the "war on drugs", what psychedelics mean to you, all the rumour, myth and propaganda out there, and what that all means too.

But, today might be a good day to get trollin', too.

We have a rag in Melbourne (AUS) called the Herald Sun, and I'm thinking of sending them one of the myths (or making one up, must include school children and a deadly cocktail of drugs.. or insanity.. or something like that) and seeing if they're lacking in journalistic integrity enough to do a report on it.

I'd love to see other Shroomerites across the world trying the same - see if we can get some reports from the rags around the world.

This is an attack on integrity, not on the drug.  The myths are easy to dispell, and those who believe them are obsolete in their thinking. 

Commercial media often lacks integrity when it comes to drug reporting, and this is one of the biggest problems with the "Drug War" today, too biased, too full of propaganda, so why not teach them a lesson, by seeing if something (REAL) stupid can be published?

Ok, so I want it to look dodgy enough to be not believable to a (real) journalist, but believable enough for the gullible types out there.

I don't know if this is enough to warrant a city-wide newspaper to report on it, but it might be enough for one of the local rags... also all owned by NewsCorp.. to pick up on.

Hi,

I wanted to bring this to your attention.  A friend of mine is a parent of one of the students at Lyndale S.C. and they showed me this the other day.
I've had a problem child for quite some time and know what it's like to be a parent and have to deal with these sorts of problems.
If this is happening at other schools around the area, then I think parents have a right to know.  What kind of people would do this to school children anyway?
I'd be interested to hear if the police are doing anything about this.

Hehehe... I'm tryna tow the line between not actually saying anything substantial at all... and saying just enough to hook, line and sinker them. 

It's a pretty old myth, but people love to believe these things.  And the commercial media has a massive tendency to take these things at face value, rather than do a little research  (anybody read the UK's Sun's article entitled "Mind Busting Jungle Drug Hits the UK"... LOL!).

Do you know if these have been sold to school children in Greater Dandenong?

I don't actually want to LIE, merely mislead.  This is an awkward predicament... I spoze, I can just say, that's all I know and I'd rather stay anonymous.  Not sure if it was that school, that was the newsletter I got.

I don't know, why must there be one more reason for the media to give out bad information on drugs.

They do that enough on there own.

If you really want to troll them tell someone was cured from some crazy problem with a new drug. Then let em know it was LSD or some other psy.

Think about this guys:

Newspaper publishes story.. with absolutely no sources.

You provide the entire story, including the email and the made-upness of it, along with a list of other similar myths, and information on bicycle day to the competing media...

They love to up-start eachother...

Have some faith in the extent of journalistic integrity ;-)

I only have the newsletter and my friend's word to go by, unfortunately.
I'd prefer to stay anonymous, for personal reasons and a little worried about implications of sending information of this sort, but you can use my first name if you wish.
Not sure if there are others in the area, but it wouldn't surprise me.  It makes sense that if this sort of thing is happening in one place, it would be happening in others too - if it's successful.
