I took a cutting about a month ago, and she hasn't been doing too well. Yesterday i noticed what looked like calcium build-up on the main stem, and today it is black and squishy. must be stem rot, i think i used too heavy of a soil. i've got her outside trying to dry out.

She was raised in a low humidity enviro. like her mother. i tried a tent, but that was no good. Is there anything i can do at this point? Repot with with small stones mixed in? Or fungicide?

don't water so much. it's much safer to under-water than over-water. adding gravel or perlite to lighten the soil may help.

i would take a new cutting and root it in water before the whole plant dies.

If the stem is already black and squishy, then it may already be too late. You might want to start up some new cuttings. Salvia seems to be kind of tricky, sometimes cuttings roots easily in less than a week, and sometimes cuttings never root no matter what you do to them. I would recommend using a gel rooting hormone and some moist but well-aerated potting soil with lots of perlite and vermiculite mixed in, and also some plastic over the cutting to keep humidity nice and high- this usually works well for me.

edit - It should never take more than 2 weeks for Salvia cuttings to root

Thank you everyone who replied. :laugh:

More perlite does sound like a good idea.  The mother is doing fine, i just wanted to see if i could save the cutting.  I only watered every 10 days, so i thought this to be quite bizzare, especially because it is in the middle of the stem, and it happened w/in a matter of days.
