I'm so excited! A kind soul recently gave me some Melzer's Reagent and I tested it on some Lactarius spores.
Melzer's Reagent
Lactarius spores 800x

Lactarius spores 2000x (sorry, kind of blurry)
Amyloid reaction (I just wiped off the immersion oil and got my fingerprints on the slide so it looks a little dirty)

Using Melzer's really helped me see the spines on the spores compared to using water like I've been doing.

thanks guys...
I just realized that there are not only spines on these spores but also reticulations or ridges.
Funky little spores!

Nice images, you should either put that in a bottle that prevents exposure to light or store it in a dark draw or cupboard, the quality will deteriorate if stored in that clear bottle!

Thanks inski! Yeah, the person that gave it to me told me that as well. So I'm storing it in a dark place and taking it out only when I need it. Thanks for mentioning that anyway though!

I agree. Lactarius spores are pretty neat. I can't wait to find more Lactarius this coming season.
I'm sure you already know about amscope. I have no other experience with other microscopes, so I really can't compare, but they get the job done. Hope you get one soon bro! Scopes are so much fun!
