i'm participating in a 3-person, restaurant sponsored drinking contest tonight.

i'm feeling a little nervous.

it's the 4th annual busser challenge.  it's basically a fine-dining themed drinking competition.  there's a lot of pressure on me to win, given how long i've been working the industry in this area.  if i lose, it'll just be embarrassing.  it should be a lot of fun though.

that said, i've been getting my chugs (out of a pint glass) clocked after work every shift, and most recently i got 3.7 seconds and then 3.6 seconds consecutively.  that's an entire bottle of beer in 4 gulps.  i know there are plenty who can chug faster, but i think that's fast enough to be strong competition.

i even ate like a normal human being today in preparation, which should hopefully play to my advantage because i usually end up drinking on an entirely empty stomach.

kinda sucks though.  my stomach doesn't seem to be in the best place right now.  i can't tell if it's just butterflies from being nervous or nausea from having eaten more in a day than i'm used to or what.

When I was younger (like 19) I was the beer bong champ. I was destroying frat guys and any takers in between. Like 5'7..125 lbs. It was funny. Ive been out of my element for years

Beer bongs and chugging from a glass are two different classes though.

well.  i doubt anyone cares, but here's my report.

it was a tie to the very end.  i lost in the final chug narrowly.  we put das boot down at the same time, but the ruling was that because i coughed some foam, i lost.  let it be known that i did not vomit, it was just a cough after the chug, in which foam was expelled.

the loss is word.  i hear it.  but it does kinda suck because about a minute after the final chug, he retreated off to a far corner to vomit, and i stood valiant.  in fact, i took 2 shots and 2 beers after the whole event, and still i stand.

there were like 2 or 3 crucial mistakes however, that i can blame on no one but myself.  i took a corner a little too fast and lost a glass on one event, which cost me the win by 1 second (after the 5-second penalty for losing the glass).  on the keg carry, i had the best time, but again i took the corner too fast and knocked over the tray-stand acting as the rally point.  in both of these events, if i had not made such a crucial error, i would have won hands down.  but i fucked up, so yeah.  fuck.

regardless.  it was close as fuck.  came down to the last chug.  not even a fraction of a second of discrepancy.  the cough lost it.  5 years in the industry.  by far the crowd favorite.  but i lost.

fuck.

oh, also, i was totally thrown for a loop in the chugging.  we had to chug from cans, rather than pint glasses.  completely changed my gameplan.  i adapted quickly, but it took me one solid chug loss to realize the err of my ways.  i had not been practicing tearing open the can lid with my thumb.  i got it eventually and won a few chugs, but i can't help but feel that had i prepared myself better, i could've performed more admirably.

i celebrated my loss by dancing on my bike around a nearby parking lot with my headphones on high.  i fell down twice.  ripped my jeans and cut my hands up even more than the broken lime juicer and ripped cans did to me.  but at this point, pain is moot, so it was enjoyable enough laughing at myself wallowing in the dirt.

i don't make the rules man.  i suppose the restaurant industry has a high enough turn-over rate that they can uphold such a rule.

but whatever.  it's word.  i had the chance tonight and i blew it at critical moments.  the loss is on me, regardless of my potential.

haha.  it ain't like that.  i like to think i'm a good sport.  an ill-begotten trophy is no trophy at all.

however, i would like to share my battle scars from the tournament, because let me fucking tell you, i bled for this shit.  multiple times.  (and still lost.  :failboat:)




obviously the cuts are no longer bleeding, but i can assure you the red was flowing free earlier.
