GH not dialed in, fucking it all up
    #14029641 -

i constructed my GH to have two usable levels, the bottom two used for the coolmist.  I run the coolmist 24 hours a day, and have tons of huge holes in my GH.

i could not get a SGFC over 80%, so i put my cakes in this greenhouse.  the top level will eventually hit a max of 98% RH, so i thought the level below it was exactly the same....WRONG!

i had cakes on the middle tray that spent about 3 days getting just waterlogged.  i didnt fan that much, as it takes a long time for my RH to raise, and the coolmist is 24/7.  without realizing, i had moved one cake from the top to the middle, which had already had a pin on it!  then it spent a couple days water logged and wouldnt really grow.

i put everything on the top shelf, and closed up the GH....well i woke up this morning, and it was at 100% RH, and there were water droplets all over the cakes and foil and growing fruit!  WTF  now my shroom has a giant blue patch!

this sucks, i did all this dialing in before i ever put anything in it, and all my work was for naught, my shit is getting fucked up!

The purpose of a green house is to automate and control the humidity and the fresh air exchange of an environment.  You really need to dial it in. Typically a person sets up a cool mist in conjunction with an ultrasonic humidifier; cool mist more for fresh air exchange from the green house and the ultrasonic for humidity.

Keep on keepin' on.

OK, you're good brotha...just slow down a bit...it takes a little tweaking to get GH's dialed in...check my gallery, I know all about it...

I think you need to turn off the coolmist every now & then...or leave the door open on the bottom two tiers...

Maybe put some Perlite under the coolmist, so when it turns off you'll still be getting a bit of water in the air.

your cakes will be fine @ an RH between 85% & 99%...

Also, the shotgun fruiting chamber probably wasn't constructed properly, because they keep RH @ 99% when constructed exactly to RR's specs.

There's no need for an ultrasonic and a coolmist. He's already flooding the greenhouse with the coolmist alone. Also, the purpose of a coolmist humidifier is just that, to provide humidity. Though it does provide FAE as well.

I keep a single coolmist (Vicks v4500) on the bottom shelf of my greenhouses, on a timer set to 4-5 minutes on, 2-3 minutes off. You really don't want the coolmist running 24/7, for obvious reasons. 6-8 1" square holes cut at each tier, and a few on the top. Keeps a pretty constant 93-99%, depending on the season. I'll keep some gorilla tape handy to tape up a few holes here and there if need be.

You can try adding a large tray of damp perlite to the bottom of the greenhouse to help stabilize the RH, and to also catch whatever water droplets that may fall from the shelves above.

How big are your holes/slits, or how many of them are there? Maybe you could get by after taping a few up?

Ultimately, you just need to work with it and dial in. It can be tricky, especially if there isn't much in there. If you fill the greenhouse with a few fruiting trays, it's a bit easier to achieve and maintain the proper RH.

Keep in mind that moist, humid air is less dense than dry air, so the upper portion of the greenhouse will tend to be higher in humidity.

Ultrasonic on a timer.
Better, ultrasonic on a hygrotherm controller.:thumbup:

allright, so i have calmed down some, i was really pissed when i wrote this

i did construct the SGFC perfectly.  i even posted a thread about it.  no matter what i did, i could not get it over 80% RH.

i have tons of holes in the GH, and the coolmist 24/7, so i dont think i need another humidifier....if i felt the need for even more water, i can just mist it.

i think the problem is 100% RH for too long, and standing water is starting to collect....so i let it build up to 100% (condensation starts forming on the humidifier and on top of my trays) then I fan it out, it drops to like 80%, and the cycle begins again.

after i posted this, i looked at the bottom of the cakes, and half of them had cobweb mold.  i sprayed h202 on them, watched them fizzle, then flipped them over, so the side that had cobweb is now on top.  the high humidity was causing the foil to collect condensation, which then was drowning the bottom of the cake.

on the other hand, the 2 practice bulk trays i made up are too dry.  the coir is light brown, and i got brave enough to touch it, and it was spongy, but not damp. they never fully colonized, and i think its because they got too dry.

i am running all sorts of experiments to determine what will best fit my needs....it seems like its a learning as you fly experience, and no one can give you a proper tek, unless they are living in your house, as conditions vary not only from town to town but house to house.

I find exactly the opposite, the bottom is drenched and the top level is lower in humidity. When my top shelf is 98% my bottom shelf is 100% and soaking.  if I make the lower shelf 95% with an open door, the top drops to like 80%.

also, neither shelf will make it over 90% if i dont tuck in the flap of the door.

im sure if i go spend 90$ on a cycle timer, i can get it perfect, i just dont wanna do that...

You don't want to run a greenhouse at 98% humidity.
Dial it back to 80, 85ish.
