It's supposed to work. A few weeks ago, there was some college guy who wore the same jeans for months without washing them (I don't recall why), but that's what he did when they started stinking.

You're telling me jeans are being made out there, with explicit instructions to never put them in a washing machine?
What nonsense... I've owned high quality denim jeans and washed them just fine. While the freezer idea may kill the smell or whatever... how do you go about getting the dirt and sweat and shit off?
If this is really the case I'd just put your jeans in a display case and wear them only like on your birthdays or something

I don't know about never washing them but I do know that if you wash them and then hang them to dry in freezing temperatures that after they have been frozen stiff as a board for a good while and then you bring them in that they will in essence thaw out dry and will be wonderful to wear. Soft and wonderful. Freezing will not remove puke or dog shit or dirt or grass stains or anything else. Washing them and then freezing them outside on a line will do them a service though. Hope it helps.

i'm not worried about stains. the jeans don't really show stains. like you can't even tell where the vomit was by looking at them, i've wiped it all off. it's just some of the odor as seeped into the fabric, and that's what i'm trying to get rid of.
if this freezer thing doesn't do a satisfactory job, i might try hand washing in a bowl of ice water using a gentle detergent like woolite. but seriously, after having not washed them this long with such satisfactory results, i'm rather inclined to continue the trend. i fucking love these things. i wear them 3 times a week. and i'm totally pissed at myself for my weakness on saturday.
epsilon, unfortunately hanging to freeze-dry outside isn't an option. it's like mid-50s outside today. gonna keep getting warmer all week.

HAH. as if you'd ever see a hippy wearing designer jeans. seriously, with raw denim jeans it is common practice to not wash your jeans as long as possible. google it. these are the best pants i've ever owned... and they were fucking free, so that's awesome.

The OP is referring to "raw" or "unwashed" denim. In high-end fashion these are the types of jeans that normally run $300+ per pair, so IMO they are different than "high quality" jeans.
As the name implies, the denim is not washed. In denim fashion, "wear" or "distress" is considered ideal. This is why more expensive jeans come "pre-distressed" (e.g. they look like the have been worn a while or have holes).
The point of raw denim is to get the jeans naturally "distressed". That is, they will only show wear and distress in places that have actually achieved wear and distress. The result is a pair of "custom" jeans, with wear and tear entirely unique to the individual.
Typically, these jeans are NOT washed at all in the first 6 months to 1 year that they are owned. This is because when washed, the indigo comes out relatively evenly and you lose part of the custom look. IMO most people DO wash them, albeit infrequently.
IME dirty hippies don't wear 300-500 dollar jeans.

I didn't know jeans wearing was such a science. I've owned $400+ jeans. I wash them. They're fine. I try to wash all my jeans as infrequently as possible, but at no point do I go more than a couple weeks of wearing a pair and not washing

Regardless of the cost, there is a difference between regular and "raw" denim.
For someone that owns $400 jeans, you should know this.

I don't have a fucking clue My friend used to work at a super high end mens fashion store and would get me shit marked down like 95%. Until he got fired, of course.

in all seriousness, if i really cared about fashion, i would stop caring the moment i got vomit on my jeans.
if there is ever a good time to put your jeans in a washer, its after you get puke on them.

TRB, I'm drinking whiskey today to try and cope with back pain that hurts so bad that it is making my ears ring. So take this with a grain of bourbon salt: but I've been thinking of writing a children's book titled: "The magical world inside the abandoned freezer" I have an abandoned freezer and can't come up with an ending for the book so come on over with those fancy pants, we'll smoke a bowl of coffee grounds and see what happens.

QFT.
There is a whole world of jean wearing science previously unknown to me.

man, there's nothing wrong with exploring other possible avenues in the hopes of doing the least amount of damage possible.
i'm looking for alternatives right now. obviously a washing machine will get vomit out of clothes. but the washing machine will also bleed the fuck out of these jeans and fuck with the shape they've been developing.

So you vomited on a pair of jeans and have no intention of washing them.
