http://www.biology.duke.edu/fungi/specieslist.htm

It does not mention any active species for reasons .. maybe because its a college website.

Anyways, you could maybe find Ps. cubensis in SC, growing from cow dung...

It takes more than an answer on a mushroom board to find them. Its a skill and art form which takes practice

I'd wait, yes. At least untill May-ish. You can also find Panaeolus subbalteatus. You might, just MIGHT be able to find Panaeolus(Copelandia) cyanescens growing near the coast in SC.

Depends on how into it you are!

For me, I'll go out on hikes foray's throughout the year... Just looking for whatever I can... even if it isint the right weather for mushrooms, you'll still find things, and it will only add to your knowlage about areas... You'll make discoveries and make a mental note to revisit an area when you think a mushroom species would favor it.

I bet you can find some things right now... Im on the other side of the nation, so I dont know for certain.. There are people here more in your neck of the woods who can probably give you a much detailed answer on what you could expect to find in certain habitats.

*edit* and see, theres Gumby

pan cyans would be on cow dung near the coast as gumby said. pan subbs will be in horse manure look at stables where they dump the shit/hay from the stalls. both can be found from spring to fall the pan cyans will need a little warmer weather. peace
