It should not matter, I personally always use a laundry bag since it makes it a lot easier to submerge and remove the straw from the water but I'm sure the burlap bag will work just the same.

Awesome, Ill just use it in the bag. first a presoak with soapy water for an hour or two then into 180 degree water and allow it to stabilize at 160 for one hour.

If the temp drops below 140 ill turn my stove back on. I have a small meat thermometer i will take readings with. I also have a couple digital thermometers i could use as well. i even have a wireless one for BBQ'ing.

Thank you ever so much for offering advice, I like hearing from people that grow.

Im still back and forth about this, As i watch RR's videos i notice how easy it is and wonder if i shouldn't just replicate it with my tub in tub.

I think what i will do is take the tub in tub into the kitchen and place it on the floor next to the stove, I'll boil as much waster as i can at one time and pour that over some lime.

what I hope is the water wont cool off too much as i am filling it, I am sure ill need to stop and boil more water so there would be a few minute lag. then i will weigh down the pre soaked bag with a dumb bell weight.

I will make sure the temp isnt above 180 when i add the bag. Ill try to hold the temp at 160 for 60 minutes. adding more boiling water if it goes under 140 within that 60 minutes.

Sorry if i repeat myself, i just want to get this down.

A tub in tub will work but a cooler will hold heat much better.

I use a large 50 gallon coleman cooler and it holds the temp while I boil more gallons water when following RR's straw log tek.

I also have an LC syringe, would it be better, easier, to knock up rye berries or BRF?

You will want to use rye berries since it will be needed to be spawned to straw and I don't think BRF would work for that unless you want to fruit it as cakes without straw.

Also justparanoid be careful when spawning the rye to the straw so none of the grains are exposed on the outside of the straw since that can lead to contamination.

Thanks, anyone have any tips for inoculating a burlap sack that has been pre soaked and pasteurized. Do i remove the straw then repack it as i layer spawn in there?

Also is it possible to just put your whole FC outside so its protected from bugs, snails and slugs?

I have a 64 quart FC i can fruit in I can fill it with damp perlite and leave it in an area that gets a few hours of sunlight early in the day?

Ill keep it misted naturally so it doesnt dry out. Whatcha think?

Yes you will want to empty all the straw out and then repack in layers with the spawn.

If it is a shotgun style FC it will fruit outside well but the only way I could think to protect it from bugs is to use mosquito mesh like you would use to screen in a pool around the outside of the tub to cover the holes.

Oysters need much more FAE so a mono-tub style tub with polyfill would not work well.

Although I'm considering making one for Shiitake soon with more holes than a normal mono-tub and using micropore tape that I think would allow more FAE then polyfill.

Im more worried about snails i find them on my porch all the time.

yeah i know that oysters need crazy amounts of fresh air so im worried even with daily fanning that might not be enough Fresh air inside the scfc.

If your burlap bag has enough mass you can fruit it outside without a FC.  Just spray it down every day or two.  I guess if you live in a super dry area it might not work but it works fine for me.  That doesn't really help with snails.  Sluggo works pretty well.  A copper strip that blocks access to the bag may keep them away.  I've never tried it but I've heard it works well for slugs.

I find snails on my porch often. Are they attracted to mushrooms?

looks good so far
as for a sub theres all kinda of things that will work
straw, paper, cardboard, wood chips mixed with sawdust, old clothes, phone books, just to name a few

as for the bag you can hang it with no worries
just make sure it stays moist, you dont want it drying up on you

mist as often as you can

any more info you need feel free to PM me
good luck with your grow
