That's just the tip of the iceberg.  I'm only a sophomore in college right now. I still have 2-3 years left in undergrad.  Then I'm going to be applying to grad schools or law schools. I'll be in intense debt, but fuck it, that amount of money is worth it to me to get a good education.

IMO the type of debt is important.  School loans can lead to better future earnings, and home mortgages can pay off.

I know plenty of people in my area who are half a million to millions in debt, because that's just the state of housing costs in an urban area.  Believe it or not, it may not be such a bad thing, because the houses are appreciating and actually making them money.

Because he's smart.

My girlfriend and I are putting ourselves through UT so we both have loans. She's going to graduate from one of the top business schools in the country with a finance degree and I'll go on to medical or dental (fallback) school. Needless to say we both have our own share of school debt but we plan to live like college kids until we can't stand it anymore. This lifestyle plus a solid income for 5-10 years puts you WAYYY ahead of the curve.

Fuck graduating and buying a $40,000 car just because you are now making 80k a year. College doesn't prepare you to manage your life, they leave that for you to figure out.

My debt: ~30k subsidized.

85k house: Up to date
50k school loans: 3 years late and can't afford
3k school loan: 2 Years late and can't afford
7k bank loan: 2 years late
7k home equity loan: Up to date
4k credit card: 2 years late

I've got about 500$ in Credit card debt, that I'm slowly paying off
And another 400-500 in debt to some rent me own me store.

There are no minimums anymore. Everything went pay in full about 3 months of not having a job and not being able to pay. They won't even talk about payments. I tried to pay one of them off but they wouldn't let me until I gave them a shit load of personal information that they have no right to ask for. Money sucks.

What I did to get money was,
Cut down spending to bare essentials
Work full time and buy and sell on ebay and in local papers

I did thing like bought a motorbike off a local guy for £200 then put it in the paper the next day for £250 :grin:

I don't really like money at all though.  Its the root of all evil but it does provide security :shrug:

I'm have about $1500 in credit card debt. It kinda sucks because each year I pay it off at the beginning of the year with my income tax returns, but by the end of the year, I've racked it all back up again. It sucks not having enough $$$.

Depends on your interest rate.  My lowest rate card is at 4.65%, which is quite a bit lower than my investments are doing right now.  Of course the market has been abnormally good lately, but for now I am not too keen on paying that credit card off.

I was charged $32 interest on my most recent bill.

If that bill stays the same for the next 10 months I'll be paying an extra $320....

I might as well just pay it off in full...

2200 to the ER, or to the debt collectors they sold the debt to. 250 in credit card, also illegally transferred without my consent to a debt agency,  but they didn't have the money in the promissory note originally, so i'm not worried about them.

Edit: i hope people realize when they take out debt based loans for consumer goods they destroy capital for real ventures. stop taking out loans for consumer shit you couldn't afford without saving your own money

2000 credit card debt
1200 owed to my parents
9300 student loans

The 2K credit card debt was racked up during a vacation. The 1200 is being borrowed to pay for a deposit/rent until I get a paycheck. I start work on Monday and will have all these debts paid by the end of 2011. I'm going to try to pay them off before summer is over.

I also will be purchasing a new/used car sometime this year. So that should add to my debt total for a while.
