Did any "too big to fail" banks actually fail?  Or were they all small ones?

People are wondering if Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are going to fail.  That would suck.

I wasnt around then but from my limited knowledge of it  there where not any "too big to fail" banks back then but the number of banks that failed was huge.Today there would be less but more significant failures.

I took out my college loans from something Mae... but I don't think it was Fannie Mae.

So what would happen if the banks that I had my college loans through went under? Am I home free?

Well fargo, fannie mae, and freddie mac all saw over 30% increases in business when IndyMac closed down.  The economy is most likely not going to collapse anytime soon.  We are also still technically not in a recession, if you go by the definition, we have to see negative economic growth for 2 quarters in a row.  We have not seen negative growth yet, just slowed positive growth.  The problem is all these big corporations are raising their prices on everything because they are not making hundreds of billions anymore, just tens of billions.  They want more money, so they raise their prices.  its a vicious cycle.

peace

EDIT: also, whoever said we have been in a recession since the 70's, are you just making this shit up?  and if not, where are you getting it from, and why are they making it up?  Fucking ridiculous.  Yes the economy is in trouble, but that doesn't justify making up bullshit claims.

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/8585077#8585077

this recession may end and everything becomes normal, but with the oil problem, and fuel prices going up, causing inflation to go up, causing people to buy less, causing less people needed to work, causing them to have less money...never know.

i think jwm285 is interested in this kind of stuff because he's a depressed low-life like myself.  if/when it happens, and he see's how miserable everyone is, he'll fell for them.

btw jwm285, it's "collapse".

Well, The US economy is based on Debt-Money.  The vast majority of money in the world is created as debt by banks, but the debts are owed back with interest, but since all the money is coming from debt it is impossible to ever escape as a world, the international bankers have us by the fucking balls and everyone is oblivious.

Since the economy is based in this way it needs constant exponential growth to pay off the debts with more debts.  But the real fraud it that the banks which lend made up money make you put real collateral down like a house, so in this way by creating money from nothing (Your Loan) they own your house.  They did not give you money they had, they just created it from nothing!  That is why the economy will eventually collapse, the world cannot sustain exponential growth so an economy built upon that cannot either.

This system of expanding credit was wanted by European nobility to keep expanding empires, but the bankers were also involved, insuring that they were the true owners of all the worlds real wealth, property, by creating the fake wealth, money.

--------------------
"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.

Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

I like free markets and all. Truly I do, at least in general, but there needs to be some kind of oversight in recognition of sustainability. Life works the same way, on a bunch of sustainable systems. Why not honor what made us what we are and take some lessons? Nature FTW!

have you ever heard of hyper inflation...  all the numbers you look at to say the economy is good are manipulated lol...  when money isnt worth as much as it used to be you have to pay MORE money for things then it will look like stocks have gone up when in actuality they havent the money just isnt worth as much as it was yesterday and you have to pay more so then it looks like a company has made an ass of money...  the shit is devalued eventually it will bust just like every other fiat currency in the history of money...  read a book...

You're reffering to the compounding effect of "purchasing power parity" (PPP).  Information on that can be found in the link I provided, and it doesn't support your conclusion.

You act as if it's some conspiracy. The reason we use it is because controlling the money supply prevents deflationary depressions and we can keep pace with growth and demand. With commodity based currency you really can't keep up with demand, And at the will of the supply, mining of that commodity, foreign manipulation.ect.Fiat isnt perfect but neither is gold, silver ect.

One thing that sucks with our economy is that our debt isn't only to banks but to other countries as well! With all of the bonds that China and South Korea have... they own a HUGE part of our debt!

I hope they don't want to cash those in soon!

Cuz humans are barely better than greedy jealous hierarchical  monkeys and we are better of with a system that uses those traits, rather than holding hands and singing kumbaya and sharing shit which invariably leads to bunch of pissed of monkeys with lots of death and chaos because some of them wanted all the bananas..:geordinod:
