Humans = the only species to make themselves obsolete

Jeopardy will be pitting some of it's best players against a machine

Programming a bunch of trivia answers into a computer is not AI. Let me take a machine to the scene of an accident or a kitchen or some random situation and let it decided where it is and what it needs to do. That's AI.

There nowhere near creating even rudimentary A.I I personally dont even think its possible at all. If it is its at least a century away.

I think the ai comes out more in whether the computer is able to correctly formulate its answer in the form of a question--because that is pretty tricky... answering a question with a question...

You're questioning an answer with a question actually.

I think you guys don't give AI enough credit...

Look at the AI in some video games though. It's getting really complex. Sure, it's not perfect, but how many times do you find yourself cursing the god damn computer?

I agree

If anybody here knew a person who couldnt do anything but spit back a question when you talked to em, we'd call them an idiot, not intelligent.

From what I hear doc_T is a prime example of artificial intelligence :lolsy:

The whole idea of A.I is a fantasy right now , true artificial intelligence would be in its ability to learn through its own actions and its own self awareness , we are no where near being able to do this at most we can program something like a car to navigate obstacles based on programming already inherent in the hardware it is still completely incapable of learning anything that it doesnt already know, and has zero sentience.

where does the line between artificial intelligence end and real intelligence begin?

Computers will always be savants when it comes to intelligence. They can know all the facts in the world but as far as wisdom goes that's a concept a computer cannot grasp and makes man (well a modest percentage of people at least) superior. I see technology as a very powerful tool and let's me focus less on memorizing facts and lets me worry more about formulating plans and putting this easy access to information to use. With smart phones now especially I turn to my phone for everything. It is smarter than I am but I am the one controlling it at the end of the day.

:congrats:

Yep this.

Artificial intelligence, needs to make it's own decisions, and not have them pre-programmed in.
