I'm not 100% sure but i think corn has to high a fat content same as hemp.
This for some reason makes them not as good.Hopefuly some one can enlighten us as to why?I wonder as well as i have sacks full for the chickens.

I know a horse who is using store bought horse feed as substrate. First he put it in a pot and simmers it for an hour. Then puts it in a strainer and thoroughly washes out the pellet stuff and the sticky sweet coating of whatever that stuff is. He lets it drain out good, loads into jars and PCs for an hour at 15. So far he only has one pint jar and done and it is halfwalf colonized in 16 days. It took 5 days at 80 degree temp before he noticed any mycelium but once it had started it grew extremely fast. He just did transfered some colonized pieces of popcorn into some more jars of it the other day and they are looking good too.

Stick to bird seed. Its cheap, easy, and it makes some awsome mushies! If you need any help with using bird seed just let me know. I already had two very sucessful runs with an experimennt using birdseed and the regular pf tek.

I too have horses, gonna give this tek a try. Horse feed contains A mix of oats, corn, trace mineral salt, diecal and molasses. Gonna soak n simmer then inject a few and try some agar mycelium in some jars.
