Reliability of ultrasonic foggers

I bought and ultra sonic humidifier from mainland mart, model number M005.http://www.mainlandmart.com/foggers.html
I had it for about a five months when the bottom steel plate just fell off the bottom of it. I looked at what it was. they had just mounted electronics and then filled it in a rock hard epoxy but right in the middle they had a different epoxy and it hadn't quite hardened like the rest and was a little malleable but i didn't think much of it.
But it just recently died just short of a year and not even a full working year. how long have you guys had yours (those who have them that is) last?

Oh, yours got a surge huh. Well shoot, it sounds like the one i got fluked out early. What are the odds of me getting one where the plate falls off. It sucks even more cause its 100 and i dont have the receipt or box or anything. I figured that with something that only takes as many volts as a thermostat, it would last a long time.
I guess i'll just have to get another.

I have some since years now and still working. Even used in cocktails and alcohol for funky effects in party with no problem.

I just purchased an ultrasonic fogger here in Holland. I went to one reptile pet shop and the person who worked there told me that he stopped selling them because they only lasted three months before breaking. He then referred me to another shop where they sold them. So from what I understand they do not last very long. I only payed 25 euros for mine though. I just put it inside my vicks v400 coolmist and the humidity in my greenhouse stays pretty high.

Hey UKS,
I tried this too and have to comment.
I looked more closely at the design of the Vick v400 and really nothing but water is drawn up the spinning disk+tube assembly.
Correct me if you see something else, but the intake for air is on the top/back. Water is drawn up the tube and spun out on the disk, drawing air through the top.
I took my fogger out of my Vicks, and put it into a dish that sat on the next shelf up so that it was just to the side of the air being blown up by the Vicks. The fog generated was easily taken up and distributed around the GH.
...until my cheapo (Chinese, $5, I am not complaining) fogger gave out.
Anyone: What are the best fogger brands?
Good luck!
JD

I think the exo terra brand is the most reliable from what I have heard. I use a generic brand. I just put my fogger inside the humidifier just right under the exhaust (where the vapor comes out of the vicks v400) with the wire for the fogger also coming out the exhaust. The v400 blows the fog throughout the greenhouse and after 5 minutes the whole greenhouse is completely foggy. I also tried putting the fogger in a dish on the top shelf and I found that I prefer it inside the humidifier.

Wow. Those are going for $42 on Amazon.
If I had confidence that one would last for at least a few years, then I might get one.
Nice looking though....
Could someone who has used a Zoo Med Reptile Fogger Terrarium Humidifier comment of how easy to clean they are?
It seems (given the reports online) that even the expensive foggers needs the vinegar/CLR fix.
Take care,
JD
