MNF Chargers vs. Broncos

God, when you see two crappy AFC teams like this you know it's gonna suck, but can we switch to high school football or something... my TV is mumbling about going on strike.

Your team wins one superbowl and already you're complaining?  28-7, it's been good.  I'm hoping Rivers breaks Marino's single-season passing record.  Brees was 1 pass short.  I forget if it was dropped or just incomplete, but I remember he was going for it.

at least the chargers are fun too watch.  they might not have the best record but they can put points on the board.

I just wanna know who decided pre-season that this was a better matchup than Colts-Patriots.

At least we get Jets Cincy on Thanksgiving.  My whole life I've grown up to the Lions losing on Thanksgiving.  Although this year they have a chance.

This year has the best chance for a good day of football since Barry Sanders retired.

Remember the coin flip game?

Once we get to this time of year, the games are all on flex time meaning that the times can be changed.  On the tickets for the games the star time is listed as TBA.  This started this past weekend and goes through the end of the season.

I'm not sure if Monday Night or Sunday Night football games are included in that or not though or if it is just done for switching games from 1 to 4 on Sunday and vice versa.  It is pretty hard ti imagine that Thursday night games are eligible either.  Also not known is when the times are actually made official for the games that are listed as TBA.

However, I'm pretty sure that the main networks (FOX, CBS) get a finite number of games that they get to protect against being cherry picked by the prime time networks (NBC, NFL, ESPN).  I am sure that the Colts / Pats game was protected by CBS.

From wikipedia for Cycle

There was an overtime coin toss on November 26, 1998 between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Detroit Lions. The referee microphone only picked up Pittsburgh captain Jerome Bettis calling "tails."[2] The toss was "tails", and Luckett called the Lions as the coin toss winners. Bettis insisted that he had called "tails", and Luckett insisted that Bettis had called "heads-tails," meaning that Bettis said "heads" first. The Steelers argued the call to no avail and Bettis denied Luckett's claim. The Lions scored a field goal on their first possession of the overtime to win the game.

Within a week, the game tape was enhanced, and Bettis is clearly heard saying "hea-tails." A sideline microphone enhancement also clearly had Bettis telling Coach Bill Cowher that (Bettis) had said "hea-tails."[2] According to NFL rules, a team's first call is the one the referee will use.

Following this incident, the captain's choice of heads or tails is now called before the coin is flipped, and the referee will generally state it over his microphone so that there is no dispute.

This incident was parodied in the film Rat Race, where Cuba Gooding, Jr. plays the role of a referee who botches a coin flip, costing one team the game.

--

Interestingly enough the referee involved in that game was the same one who ruled Vinny Testaverde had scored a touchdown against Seattle later that year when he was clearly out.  That play was a major catalyst for the return of instant replay in its current form.

The flex schedule includes the Sunday night NBC game, but not Monday or Thursday night. There's also some restrictions on which games NBC can take, but I can't remember 'em exactly. I think FOX and CBS can designate one game each week that they won't give up. NBC might also have to alternate between AFC and NFC games so they don't screw one network more than the other. Not too sure on that one, though.

Edit: I need to read better. You already said all that in your post...oops.

Not all of it.  You actually confirmed some things I wasn't sure of and made a good point about the alternating weekends.  Not sure if its true but will keep an eye out.
