I'm gonna wait for PT to come in here and tell me how he deserves a Pro Bowl spot over Rivers (4 td's today).

That might have been the worst display by a "pro bowl" QB in a big game I have ever seen.
And as I pointed out to my friends who were over here, and have noticed for a while, he almost always throws the ball in the wrong spot. Sure, he can fire off lasers and look great doing it, but not putting the ball in an optimal spot for your receiver to catch the ball, gain yards after the catch, and to just plain stay alive, over and over at the age of 25 has got to start raising some flags.
Not to mention, as you said, he plain missed guys by a LOT today.
Add to the pot that he throws the biggest tantrums I've seen since Reggie Miller and I am yet to see him off the field without a backwards baseball cap and it is not adding up well.
Truthfully, I hope they get stomped in SD so that the needed changes can be made and everyone can quit acting like this team can do something.

Broncos are gonna lose to the Chargers for sure. But hey, G-men pulled off an OT win tonight so it's not all grim.

I've been working!
And recovering from yesterday's game.
This Sundays game is going to be great.
And did anyone watch this game, like actually watch the entire thing or are you cockgoblins going off of Sportscenter highlights?
Yes, Cutler throws interceptions, he also completes passes that only a few can. Did you see he ran for two touchdowns? Did you see him scramble on third-downs to get first downs? Did you see the last past to Stokely in the endzone that Stokely had knocked out of his hands? Great pass.
And yes, the interception late in the game in the redzone was killer, I won't deny that it wasn't.
You guys will be firmly attaching your chins to my nutsack next year when we have 5 top-quality healthy runningbacks!
Come on, 5-6 runningbacks on IR and another one injured yesterday! We had absolutely no running game to speak of whatsoever and Cutler was still making drives.
whattheheck, what does Cutler's backwards hat have to do with anything? And his complaining? How about helmet radio that didn't work properly? Or how about the pass interference that was called and then renegged on after it was decided the running back was behind the line of scrimmage, when he wasn't?
And redstorm, I love you, but your argument in a previous thread was that pro-bowl selections are based off of stats. Obviously not!
And I don't appreciate being called a homer for liking the Broncos because all you are homers for your own teams.
And zappa, you're a baseball fag, get the fuck outta here!

What are they based on, if not stats? I suppose you could argue wins or team quality, but you can't in this case.
Also, you can't argue on wins with Cutler either, since he's no better than Rivers in that regard either. You're up a creek without a paddle trying to argue that Cutler is a better pro bowl starter than Rivers. It's not even close.

The pass to Stokley was NOT a great pass, this is what I am talking about with Cutler. If you look closely, and there were a large group of us watching the game here that saw it on the replays, Stokely was running a slight curl route, you can CLEARLY see him beginning to stutter step and turn in left (where there were NO defenders) when he sees the ball floating back right (where there were TWO defenders) and made a GREAT attempt to catch a HORRIBLE pass. And he manned up and said "I need to catch that".
The FACT is that Cutler does this all the time and the average guy won't pick up on it unless it's pointed out. I've watched a LOT of this guy, and he does this all the time. If he doesn't float the ball back/right and gets it ANYWHERE near Stokely on the mini-curl he was running (which was the RIGHT call as they had left that area open to protect the corners and back of the endzone) they score.
I know it's hard to face these facts, but if he doesn't improve, he will become nothing more then a modern day Jeff George, if he's lucky. Look up that guys stats and he had at least as much of an arm as JC.
And yeah, I watched the game. Get your homer on man, I'm trying. I was big on Cutler long before the Broncos drafted him, but PT, you gotta see where he's at. Can he develop? Sure. Will he? I thought he would have more by this point.

I thought you were a homer for the Packers? Lions? I swear I remember you rambling on about Brett Favre.
And I was pointing out the irony that you said vote selections are supposedly based on stats, when they're really not, not totally. I mean, how do you vote for an o-lineman, number of sacks he didn't give up? Number of people he pancaked to the turf? Number of knees he blew out due to chop-blocks? How do you tally that shit?
Mark my words, well, not really MY words, but the consensus of a multitude of NFL analysts: give Cutler a consistent running game Denver is most famous for and he will when MVP.

Don't get me wrong. I think Cutler will be a great QB. If there's a QB I would put money on in the future, it would either be him or Ryan.
All I'm saying is that there's more deserving AFC QB's this year.

It's not going to happen if he keeps making the mistakes that he makes and throws so many hard to catch balls. NFL coaches can, will, and already are capitalizing on his weaknesses. He MUST start putting the ball in a better spot. NFL wide receivers, especially those like Marshall, can make you look good. But they will never be consistant until he starts putting the ball where it needs to be.
Jay's the young gunslinger who makes busted plays give you a woody when he pulls it off, but that won't win you a title. Besides, he's a pee-wee in that department when it comes to guys like Barry Sanders and Mike Vick.
We also need to address the fact that he plays in one of the hardest places for road teams to play at, AND his division sucks.
As far as the "give him and all pro running back and he'll look great", well, I should hope so. An all pro running back and wide receiver and you're a top 10 pick QB and you can't deliver the goods? There's one word for that. BUST.
I'm hoping this will not be the case, but let's watch this game Sunday, and keep your eyes open for what I'm talking about.

I didn't say all-pro RB. I said top-quality.
Meaning someone who fits into the Broncos scheme and can pick up yardage and stays healthy. Broncos offense relies on mis-direction for a lot of it's passing. It's a full circle, good running game, opens up bootlegs, fake handoffs, quick slants to Marshall and Stokely while Royal sprints down the field. When the passing game gets going you must account for that, not even mentioned Scheffler and Graham running down the middle of the field, and thus the running game opens up, especially handoff draws from the shotgun position, quick counters and the standard one-cut up field and turn on the burners plays which the Broncos created.
If we had a healthy running game, this entire thread would not have been created, 's all I'm saying.
Two words, Terrell Davis.

I hear you on all of that. The RB thing has been, in a world that uses hyperbole WAY too much, truly bizzare.
The D is a joke though, not much to be done there but spend a lot of cash. Hopefully Champ will be able to get back up on his horse here soon.

They lost. At home. To the fucking Buffalo Bills. They scored enough points. They had over 530 yards to the Bills' 275. They punted zero times. They turned the ball over just twice, which is not bad. Their running backs aren't the problem. Their gonads are.

At least they have a guy that can sell them a decent phone.
But, to add to the conversation. The pro-bowl is a popularity contest before anything else. Rivers didnt make it because people dont like loud rednecks. Look at Favre. His stats are shit and he made it. I think Rivers and Cutler should have made it over Favre.
The Broncos problem is that their red zone offense has blown the past few weeks. They put up 500 + yards but cant cap any of those yards with TDs.
This makes for an exciting game but doesnt say much about either team.

They rushed for 181 yards in 27 plays, for a 6.7 yard per carry average. They had the lead for most of the game, 13-0 early then 20-16 after 3 Qtrs. They almost doubled the Bills in yards from scrimmage. They didn't have to punt one time. 7/14 on 3rd down. Running backs on IR wasn't the problem. Clearly. What a stupid whine.

Granted, it was the Raiders and opening week, but yeah, that's what I'M talking about.
everyone looks spectacular against the raiders.
the broncos are mediocre at best. they need a friggin' D.

Man, if I wasn't feeling so good, I would agree with you, but it's going to be a SICK game, one that will go down in both franchises history's, especially if it's a good game and/or San Diego wins.
I haven't been this pumped for a game in a while. I was happy for my childhood loves (Da Bears) to make it to the Super Bowl, but I really felt they had little chance. I WANTED to believe they did, but that team has torn my heart out for 23 years.
But this??

It's either gonna be that OR he'll drop 450 & 5 TD's and then go to the playoffs and suck.
At this point, it's a guessing game.

Actually they were free for me. My family always buys me tickets to the San Diego vs Denver game in SD. I grew up in San Diego but my dad is a Denver fan so I like to see both teams play one another.

That being the case, it behooves you to bring an enormous "SHROOMERY" sign with you to the stadium.

Remember Dolts supporters, Norv "The Norv" Turner, has a tendency to lose the big games.
He simply does not have the mental capacity to make the tough decisions come crunch time and in the national spotlight.
Remember this.

Norv did a pretty damn good job in last year's playoffs. The Chargers lost against the Pats in the AFC Championship when they had 3 of the key offensive players broken. If Rivers, LT, and Antonio Gates were healthy during that game then I think the Chargers would have won.

I refuse to root for any team that Rivers is on, not to mention Merriman. Cutler might not be as worthy of a pro bowl spot as Rivers this season, I always enjoy seeing Rivers lose so I can watch him whine.

you're arguing with people who are fans of the absolutely crappies division in the league.
of course they're going to lobby for conference winners to have playoff bids.
because both teams suck ass. And a 10-6 team deserves a playoff spot more than a pitifull 8-8 team, especially an 8-8 team in the shittiest divisional competition.

Well, that's one diplomatic way to put it
I have to work, but I'll have it on the radio. And I really enjoy radio a lot of times to TV, especially if the major network announcers are on. I need to check where they're at.
I bet the butterflies are starting to build out there in SD. Rivals, Rivers vs. Cutler (I really believe they dislike each other a LOT. Probably because they're so much alike but anywhoo) last meaningful game of the NFL season in Primetime, the list goes on.
Man, it's for games like this that I would pay to be a pro athlete.

So, if an 8-8 team wins the division and then makes it to the Superbowl you still would say they are an inferior team?
Hell, even if they beat one team in the playoffs it proves they deserve to be there. But, I do understand where you are coming from. If San Diego was in another division and had a 10-6 record but missed the playoffs I would be pissed. But, that is how the playoff system works. And I am sure if the Chargers make it in they will review the system in the off season.

I think he was saying that because of the current scenario with New England, where if Miami wins today, the 10-6 Patriots wouldnt make the playoffs
Miami currently leads 24-17 in the 4th, 9 mins left

i know
i was saying that cuz i like to rag on the chargers. i'm surrounded by their fans pretty much everyday.
but i actually want the chargers to win, cuz they got royally fucked last time they played the broncos.
and on top of that, the chargers could be a wild card capable of pulling an upset.
but with the broncos making the playoffs, there's not really much suspense that they'll get raped in the wild card round.

I am ecstatic that the Pats are eliminated. I am absolutely shocked at the turn around the Dolphins made in 1 season

Denver just needs to scrap its defense and start all over. If they can improve their D and get an RB who can manage to make it through a season, they should b back on their feet.

Yeah, until Prader missed the PAT, and then again when I said "whoa, it's the red zone. Here comes a pick in the end zone." And besides, I still knew the chargers would win. Goooooooooooooo Giants!

I love the Rockies and the Avs, I can even get down with the nuggets, but I'm glad these INSANE homers I hear around here spewing about how "great" the broncos are going to have to face reality. Their team sucks. Their coach is past his prime, their QB is a baby, the D is AWFUL, the running back corp, even when healthy is average at best. They'll have an average draft pick, and that's just for starters. But don't worry, they're ready to "turn the corner" at any moment.
More like turn a corner off a cliff.
Like the guys on the radio said, this is a team that people could say, "Well, if they got a few bounces, they could go from 8-8 to an 11-5 team real easy" but the truth of the matter is a lot closer to "If they didn't get the bounces they did, they'd be 5-11 at best".
At least the city they play in is the bomb
Colts-Eagles & The Colts win 31-17.

I've never once said the Broncos were great. I did say Cutler is a better QB than Rivers.
And what the fuck are you talking about average draft pick? Hopefully you mean average as in they'll have about the 15-20th pick, not that they are average drafters.
Clady, Royal, Torrain, Larsen and Hillis from last year, GREAT draft.
Yeah.
Good use of emoticons though.

It is pretty funny than they have won nine in a row, have the league's best QB (and most likely the MVP), one of the best receivers, and a great coach who has been to the playoffs nine (I think it's nine) times in a row. Plus it's not as if this team has won a SB before, right?

The former, not the latter.
The broncos draft great, but they are a LONG way away.
Or so it seems. Look at Miami.
Denver could be in the Super Bowl next year and it wouldn't shock me if a few players develop, the ball bounces their way a few times, and they draft well.
Shanahan can coach, the fans and organization are tope notch. And it's for all these reasons I come down on them so hard. They should be better. And everyone knows it who's honest about it.
Time will tell. Meanwhile, it's playoff time

should make for an interesting revenge match, getting to face the chargers once more.
colts do look good. chargers look good.
personally, as a steelers fan, i'd rather face the colts/chargers than the ravens.

I bet you could take that remark back.
Obviously I am a Chargers fan, but Prader or Prater, or however he spells his fuckin name, is a joke. Every game I have watched he has missed a chip shot. Im not complaining as a Charger fan, I loved that he missed that, but as a football fan I am disgusted.
Crazy ass game to be at though. The section I was in had mostly Denver fan, many of whom drove in from Denver. I love the city and I love the people. Other than the few drunk fans from both teams getting into fights, it was awesome. I wish it had been a closer game so the smack talk could go back and forth more.

Pengy can take consolation in the fact that the Broncos won the real game within a game. Their defense allowed more points than the Cowboy offense allowed.

Hilarious shit.

Someday I'll get banned from this subforum for having no fucking idea what I'm talking about.
But anyway, I just don't think they have what it takes to make the bowl this year, solely on the strength of some other teams. I think the Giants will likely make it, I think the Ravens have a real good shot. Dolphins probably won't make it, but crazier things have happened in football. Phillie has a shot, so do the Vikings, so long as Travesty Jackson doesn't mess things up and just sticks with Peterson for a W. Carolina is also going to be a very strong contender. But who knows? (clearly not me)

And what the fuck is up with that WR short screen. Cutler can bomb a billion miles down field and you have flipping it 5 yards down the line of scrimmage.

I would be PUMPED if we got him. BUt from what I hear, and I'm still fairly new to the local scene, is that Bolin and Shanny have some life long blood pact.
I don't understand how either coach or owner could think such an tdeal could ever be good for the team and it's fans, which should be the #1 priority (I know, I know)

Bill Cowher led the Steelers to the title a few years back and is an overall cool mofo.
He'll get crap fixed REAL fast.
I'd like to see Cutler scream at him. It would only happen once

Same with his temper tantrums....maybe. Cowher's known for them too though.
Remember when he kissed Kordell Stewart?

Hey Penguie, what do you think of the speculation that Shanahan may be coaching the Cowboys next year??
I never disliked Shanahan personally, just the Broncos overall.

I don't give a shit. He can go anywhere he wants, I'm just glad he's gone. Now I want Cowher.

Gotta say, Shanahan in Dallas could get real interesting if they don't give him the all the power like he had here.

As a Dallas fan I can whole heartedly say that I want nothing to do with Mike Shannahan, thanks anyways. I will take my Wade Phillips and replace offensive coordinator Jason Garrett

I was wrong, I admit it. If I had to pick again, I still think I would have picked the Colts to win this game based on the regular season. the better team tonight won, though.

Yeah I know what you mean. To be fair this is not the stage I would have thought would stop the colts. Chargers may turn out to be an interesting team post season though.
What are your picks for tomorrow?
I got Ravens for sure and Eagles maybe

My picks as well. I'm starting to think Mr. Rivers might well be the real deal. He's certainly got it all over that wanker Cutler.

Yeah, he throws a lot of bullet passes to the opposing teams.

Yeah, if someone just teaches him how to read zone defenses, especially in the red zone, Cutler will be a viable threat next year.

He also throws a lot of passes his receivers can't catch.

When it comes to Cutler, I've been banging this drum all year. He throws a lot of picks and temper tantrums when he does cuz, ya know, it's never his fault.
And he throws hard to catch balls ALL the time. He better get to work inthe offseason.

That's my impression from the limited amount I've seen of him. Rockets that do not improve the chances of his team winning.

Maybe. But I feel badly for those who are slurping this guy's junk at this stage of his career.
