Anyone here do Parkour? Music question as well
    #13525124 -

Skip to 1:30 and sit back and be amazed. I don't even understand how someone gets strong enough to do this. Anyone here do it or attempt too?

The other question is what kind of music is playing throughout the video and whats a band that sounds similar.

Insanity :awehigh:

I'm getting into it, nothing crazy yet but I've been learning some of the basic techniques and how you're supposed to land so you don't fuck your ankles up.

Yeah I suppose ankle strength is a huge part of it. Ankles and core!

Do you train just by doing it?

Yeah, pretty much. If I see a wall I think I can scale somehow I'll try it or just jumping over/down random shit. Went on a hike the other day in the mountains and if you go off trail it's really good training jumping from rock to rock. Good to have someone with you if you're going to do that though just in case.

Well I rock climb and all I could think of was "these guys would tear up boulders". Very cool stuff.

Anything about the music?

That isn't really parkour in the video, in the traditional sense at least. I would call it more freerunning, like the video says, which is a blend of parkour, and tricking. Looks like some of them even mix some bboying into their styles as well.

Training at a gym with pads and someone who has experience is ideal. If not with someone who has experience, at least someone to train with you and watch for safety. Somewhere with pads is pretty helpful.

I haven't been able to do any kind of training the last few months because I messed my back up while lifting some stuff at work. I have an appointment with a chiropractor tomorrow that should help.

Look into plyometric exercises. Do some stretches and practice some basic acrobatics. Having a history in gymnastics, martial arts, or dance can help a lot.

I didn't even notice that it was an 8 minute video until it ended.

I trained for around ~3 years, I was part of the original group in Australia before it took off.

Suffered 2 separate injuries, tore my ACL in my knee during a slip and fall, that put me out for ~4 months.

Got back into it WAY too soon and quickly tore my ATL in my ankle during a saut de bras. Unfortunately both injuries were on the same leg and to top it off it was my non-dominant leg to start with. This put me out for ~6 months.

After those 6 months I signed up for my AFF 1 skydive and never looked back, extremely disappointing, lost a lot of good friends and genuinely the best times I had in my life.

If I could go back and do it again I would do it right, multiple years of hard conditioning before any real world applications. No drops, no big saut de bras, nothing on hard concrete. Lots of gym work, lots of plyos, lots of work on mats.

Me in 2004, my VERY first parkour "jam" in Brisbane/Australia and the start an awesome 2-3 years.

Yeah, I would stress conditioning before going out into the world and applying what you've learned. Too many people get hurt by thinking they are already at a level to safely handle the hurdles and falls.

that's how I broke my ankle about 10 years ago, back then though it wasnt
called a saut de bras, it was called jumping a wide gap you should have
made cleanly

I didn't have any of the required strength/conditioning to do parkour safely, how I managed to get nearly 3 years out of the sport with 2 relatively minor injuries completely baffles me.

I didn't even start doing squats till ~2 years after I quit parkour :facepalm::facepalm:

Not because I was stupid just because I didn't know.

Back when I first started there was a massive war (probably still is) about freerunning vs parkour.

I ended up siding with the frenchies/traceurs and trained parkour exclusively so I grew to use the proper terms despite sounding like a pretentious dick :yesnod:

The OP isn't parkour, it's freerunning.

That war is still going on, and probably will keep going as long as people care about the difference in a name.
I pretty much sided with the frenchies, though they have created a new term called 'l'art du placement' (the art of placement) that many traceurs are using now.

Parkour is about efficiency not flipping around, that's called freerunning A.K.A  showing off and wasting energy.

An example of parkour would be vaulting the back railing on a ten foot stair set to get down rather than walking down the stairs, done for efficiency.

An example of freerunning would be setting up a camera on that same obstacle, then walking up the stairs to get to where you want to jump off so all your bros think you're a pretty cool guy that jumps over railings and doesn't afraid of anything.

Someone who is skilled in parkour is running, they see a bench with a four foot drop behind it and right next to it is just a normal walkway. He keeps running down the normal walkway without even getting the urge to risk his health doing something stupid over the bench.

The freerunner is running in the same area and he sees the bench and tries to do a backflip over it. Instead he cracks his skull on the pavement and has to move in with his auntie and his uncle in Bel Air.
