What did you do if you dropped out of highschool?

I see alot of you guys saying you dropped out of HS. wtf why? might as well just finish it out. If you dropped out, what did you do? where did you go? Didnt your parents even care? jesus christ:um:

anyways, i left, and got my ged, school was far too boring.  im now in training to get my paramedic.  was gonna do MICN but i wanna be in the field earlier.  later i'll go for the RN

I dropped out of school when I was 16. Had to work full time to pay the bills, so I left school and got my GED.

Probably the best decision I ever made, considering school was a drag, doesn't pay, and is incredibly time consuming. Took about 8 hours total over the course of 2 weeks to get my GED, was a much better option for me.

i hated highschool, couldnt take the "you cant say this","you cant wear that","pull up your pants","go to class on time","wheres your homework","stop coming into my class high as a friggin kite" bullshit

i did enjoy most of the classes, especially sciences and history, but the homework sucked and the teachers and enviroment sucked

after getting expelled 3 times i graduated from a continuation school, now im in college and doing great and lovin education and the whole college life


high school and college just arent for some people

I just fucking left everyday at lunch for my junior years and stopped going halfway through, 13 credits out of like 30, so now I work a $11 an hour job with no future, FUCK YES

quit HS after 10th grade and then got my GED and did a bunch of semesters at CC and then I bombed out of UH Manoa because I stopped going to class... and opiates of course. now I am just here and trying to avoid work or school at all costs. Its hard

EDIt: what a horrible sentence,I need to go back to school for english

When I dropped out, It's cause the guy my mom was dating ( purdy much my dad ) had just unexpectedly died, then two months later my friend killed himself. And a month after that I switched schools.
Plus I was an A,B student.
Dropped out, Got my GED, then traveled the east cost. Lived in a few different places, cleared my head a bit.

I was always a "good student" all through out school.


Up to my JR year in high school I was one out of ten kids (of 3,000 students) that had not missed any days of school, had never been late to a single class, had perfect citizenship, and had a 3.0gpa...I didn't even smoke pot or drink until I was 19.


A bunch of shit went down in my life later JR year, my best friend died, my parents got a divorce, I switched schools, and family drama in general. So since I fucked up JR year there was no way I could make up enough credits through out my SR year to graduate, so I dropped out.

I was already 18 by my SR year so I walked into the office and told them I was going to drop, and I signed my self out of the school with out my parents getting involved.





I got my GED shortly after. Went and did road construction for a while, making decent money ($500-$1000 a week). Then quit work (stupid), took a couple classes at a JR. College, that sorta fell through...




Now here I am looking for work like everyone else. My ultimate goal is to run my own herbalist/alternative medicine shop and live in a little cabin in the woods, it's doesn't take much for me to be happy and content.

Graduating high school is over-rated :shrug: :smirk:, it's really not going to have any sort of effect on my life, even if I did graduate I have no doubt I would be in the same position I am now.

I don't get the high school system. My school was very lenient in every manner. Yes they knew kids drank, yes they knew some did drugs, and yes they knew school was not interesting to kids.

But the school didn't go out of there way to stop the kids from being them selves. We were a closed campus but our "on campus security" (which consisted of two 30 somethings that were more friends with the students then staff) let juniors and seniors off campus without worrying at all.

- my teachers spoke of smoking in the past openly (one revealed he was a ex crack head addict turn yuppie)

- They didnt care how we dressed or anything

- All they wanted was some respect in the classroom, and the rest was up to you

And with all this going on, my school's academic scores ranked #92 of all public high schools in the country. And we only had maybe 1 or 2 drop outs in my town of 16000.

I feel sorry for those who had a bad school, teachers, or lifestyle. My experience was fantastic, and I can only wish my kids have the same good time I did.

If every school system was "real" such as yours, I think America would really turn around, in the kids that are coming out of high school.

I graduated with a 0.0 for my senior year, for junior, sophomore and freshman I had a 4.0. So I graduated with a 3.0 commutative. Actually it was like 2.9

How did you graduate with F's? At least where I went to school that means you didn't pass any classes. Weren't there required classes that you needed senior year?

i feel like the government is using highschool against the masses to keep them from learning stuff in the real world. if people want information about thangs they're going to seek it out. it's in our innovative nature. school is essentially a barrier keeping people from learning things until they're the approved "government age" to actually learn things that are relevant in their own lives


this of course is necessary to keep the economy stable and keep the masses just smart enough to operate the machines, but dumb enough so that they don't start thinking critically or begin taking divergent imaginative leaps in their own lives

I dropped out of the 8th grade, moved out when I was 15, and did nothing but work and drugs(alot of E, coke, crack, opiates...) for 4 years.

Now I'm in my second year of college and I'm teaching shit to these fresh-out-of-highschool kids who are just happy to be breathing.

It trips me out. I had a teacher even tell me I was at an advantage by not going to highschool.

School didn't teach me shit.

Well it did, but nothing I couldn't have learned by myself in a shorter period of time.

The major benefit of schooling was it makes you "normal"/sociable, whether that's good or bad in the long run... in the short run it makes living in our current society easier.
