My credit report
    #4750822 - 10/03/05 06:31 PM (18 years, 5 months ago)

I went to www.freecreditreport.com and got my credit report

I got a 780 out of 830 (830 out of 830 is perfect).  I'll bet I have every single one of you beat.

I only got 720, when my credit card company checked it. They wouldn't raise my limit so I told them to fuck themselves and got a new card with more credit than I could possibly spend.

it drops if you request an increase in your limit too. It drops for just about any reason a creditor can think of.

Yeah. Unless you go to experian, transunion, or equifax (the 3 bureaus) directly for a credit report, it goes on your credit as an "inquiry" and too many of those drop your score.

The logic behind that, is that you may be applying for/incurring a lot of new debt (and possibly getting in way over your head) so most lending institutions view that as a raised risk.

The actual reason it drops when you ask to increase your credit is because the credit card company pulls a credit report on you....an inquiry. There's no magical drop just for requesting the increase.

Untrue.  If you apply for a cell phone, it pulls it...insurance companys ... they pull it too.  Pretty much everything shows up on your credit nowadays.

There are different ways to look at a credit report. If you subscribe to comcast cable, they look at your credit report but they don't lend money so their "hit" goes under a different category and does not subtract points. If you are shopping for a mortgage, every hit lowers your score for a month or so.

I review about 25-50 credit reports per day...and I've never once, in my 5 years as an underwriter, see different "categories" of inquiries on your credit.

For us consumers, the only categories are really the ones that subtract points and the ones that do not subtract points.

I have only been shown all categories on one report...I think it was Experian, but don't quote me. They had the banks/credit companies under one group which subtracted points and RCN cable, cingular, etc. in another group that does not get shown to anyone but you.

BTW, my score is like 680. I suck.

it's true randal... for one reason or another each time a credit check is done it impacts your fica score... not by much though... my credit rating was 820... i lost my home due to illness. it took some time but my credit score is currently 780. i found this out through my lawyer... hopefully i'll be able to assume another mortgage for my next home...

Is it true that everytime you ask for a higher credit limit on your charge card they automatically turn you down? Kind of like you have to be gifted with it. I once applied for a visa and they turned me down. Then I got sent in the mail a pre-approved master card with USAA and they gave me a 10K limit and I have no credit good or bad and don't even have a job. I would like a higher limit in case of an emergency but don't want to ask. Will they just offer it to me after awhile?

They gradually up it. They would give me $500 here and a $1000 there. When I asked for an increase once they turned me down. But, once I got my inheritance and I told them about it, they bumped my credit limit up.

That's not bad at all for a young'in. Shit..I'm at like 12% or so. I need to do some shopping around for a better deal.

Be careful though with credit cards. The companies try to pull little tricks on you. That 9% might only be for the first six months and then they raise it up to 20% or some shit like that.

A soft-pull doesn't affect your score. Pulls that judge creditworthiness drop it 3-6 points, depending.

I own a house, three vehicles, two dirtbikes, two fourwheelers and a large Caterpillar backhoe / bulldozer. Most of it was purchased on credit. My score probably beats Randals :P
