Police: Wendy's chili finger identified
Friday, May 13, 2005 Posted: 2:21 PM EDT (1821 GMT)

SAN JOSE, California (AP) -- Police say the finger that a woman found in a bowl of chili came from an associate of her husband's who lost the digit in an industrial accident.

"The jig is up. The puzzle pieces are beginning to fall into place," Police Chief Rob Davis said.

He said authorities "positively confirmed that this subject was in fact the source of the fingertip."

The man is from Nevada and lost a part of his finger in an accident last December, Davis said. His identity was traced through a lead made to a Wendy's hot line, he said.

Davis said authorities "positively confirmed that this subject was in fact the source of the fingertip."

Anna Ayala, the 39-year-old woman who said she found the finger, was arrested last month at her suburban Las Vegas home.

Ayala maintains she bit down on a 1 1/2 inch-long finger fragment while dining March 22 with her family at a Wendy's in San Jose. She has denied placing the digit in her bowl.

She hired a lawyer and filed a claim against the franchise owner, but dropped the legal fight shortly after police searched her home.

Ayala, who has maintained her innocence, faces a maximum seven-year sentence if convicted of larceny charges, and at least another 16 months if convicted of unrelated charges that she allegedly bilked a woman $11,000 over a soured real estate deal two years ago.

Ayala has been involved in nearly a dozen legal battles, including a sexual harassment suit against an employer, an auto dealer over a car and even another fast-food chain for food poisoning.

pwned!

On 21 April 2005, Anna Ayala was arrested by Las Vegas police on charges of attempted grand larceny pertaining to the Wendy's case.  Police later determined the mysterious finger Ayala claimed to have found in a bowl of chili came from an associate of her husband's, who lost his fingertip when it was severed in the tailgate of a truck during a work accident at an asphalt maintenance company and evidently gave the digit to a co-worker to settle a $50 debt. In September 2005 Ayala and her husband, Jaime Placencia, pled guilty to conspiring to file a false claim and attempted grand theft.  In January 2006, Ayala was sentenced to nine years in prison and Placencia to twelve.

This guy I know lost half a finger a while back. I had a dream about losing my own fingers last night also and it got me thinking. I need to cherish my fingers more by spreading awareness about fingers by posting in threads about fingers.

I cut my finger in halfway through once.  All the way into the bone.

This is 4 days after the initial cut:

The right side is sealed together, but if I pulled it apart, you could see into the bone (but it was still bleeding, even after 4 days).

It's hard to get the top of your finger to heal (as when you move your finger, instead of squeezing it together, like a cut to the palm of your hand or underside of your fingers would do, it pulls it apart).  The cut was into the bone, and cut through all the top capillaries on my finger.

when i was younger, my grandfather had these electric hedge trimmers..

well to start it you had to plug it in then pull back on a tab with your thumb and push up on the speed with your fingers..

i picked it up to trim the hedges and plugged in the cord not knowing that my grandpa had lodged something in the tab to hold it back and taped up the trigger so all you needed to do was plug it in to start it..

i didnt realize that until after my pinky finger was laying on the ground and the hedge was still not trimmed.
