Just finished chatting with a Mormon
    #13425311 -

I am converting to Mormonism because this bitch convinced with some hot evidence that God is real.  You can chat with Mormons too at mormon.org.  Be respectful because Jesus is taking notes.

Welcome to Mormon.org chat.
A missionary will be with you shortly.
Agent [Diana] is ready to assist you.
Diana: hi
Me: hi Diana
Me: I'd like to understand faith
Agent [Melissa] has joined the chat.
Diana: What do you know about it?
Me: I don't understand how people have it.
It seems that God is not in my life at all
and never was
Diana: And why is that you are interested?
Me: I just want to understand what other people feel. It seems so foreign to me.
Me: Why do you believe in God? It seems to me because that is what someone told you, right? But why do you believe it?
Melissa: well faith is to believe in something you can't see
Diana: No
Melissa: have you ever prayed, Mary?
Diana: Is because I know
Diana: Is something hard to explain
Diana: but is something we can all feel
Diana: What is that you believe?
Me: When I was a kid I prayed. But it just felt like I was talking to myself.
Me: I felt nothing from it.
Diana: Yes
Me: If there is a God, why doesn't he reach out to me?
Diana: Faith comes first
Me: Why should I have faith in the Christian God? There are so many others?
Diana: You must have faith in order to receive answers
Me: It seems that people have faith in the God that their parents teach them about.
Diana: There is just 1 God
Me: but Diana, if you were born in India, wouldn't you believe in some other religion?
Me: Why Mormonism?
Me: Why Mormonism other than the fact that it was what you were born into>
Diana: Because I prayed
Me: it seems so arbitrary.
Me: what happened when you prayed?
Diana: Is something you need to experience in order to understand
Diana: I just feel good
Me: Is it possible that if you were praying as a person in India to a different god that you would have experienced the same thing?
Diana: I dont know
Diana: But I know there is just one God
Diana: And He is our Heavenly Father
Me: Many Indians experience religious and spiritual awakenings that are not Christian. Are they experiencing illusions.
Diana: I never had one of those
Diana: But Mary if you are willing to learn
Me: But millions have. Why would God allow these people to be misled?
Diana: I can send missionaries
Diana: and they can teach you how to pray
Diana: Is not a missionary position
Diana: Sorry
Me: thanks Diana, but I just don't understand what sets Mormonism apart from all of the other religious faiths.
Me: All require my faith and all promise heaven
Me: but all leave me empty
Diana: Well that is why Im inviting you to learn and find out dor your self
Me: I've spoken with missionaries and spent some time with the Mormon Bible. Still these questions were never answered with any satisfaction
Me: I guess I'll die an atheist.
Diana: Well we dont have a mormon bible
Me: Its a black book and the person wrote a whole two page letter to me on the first two pages. it looks like a bible
Diana: Oh is The Book of Mormon
Me: right. It reads just like the Bible too.
Me: and unfortunately doesn't speak to me.
Diana: Is another testament
Diana: Well books dont speak
Me: metaphorically
Diana: YOu must have faith and sencere intent
Diana: and pray
Diana: I invite you to read it again
Diana: from the begining
Diana: having that desire
Diana: and Ill promess you
Diana: you will receive an answer
Me: thanks Diana.
Me: God has an answer for me?
Diana: YEs
Diana: Hes is your Father in Heaven
Me: I'm waiting fifty years and no sign yet...
Diana: Well never is to late to start to beleive
Me: thanks for the talk.
Me: good night
Diana: It was so nice
Diana: to talk to you
Diana: and come back anytime
Diana: ok
Me: ok
Diana: good night

The Mormon I got was sort of a bitch and didn't teach me anything. I would not recommend this church.

Welcome to Mormon.org chat.
A missionary will be with you shortly.
Agent [Ashleigh] is ready to assist you.

Ashleigh: hi, how are you?
Me: Oh hi, I'm good.
Me: How are you?
Ashleigh: im good thanks. what brings you here tonight?
Me: I just happened upon your website, and I am kind of curious in Mormonism because the Mormons I've met have seemed like really good people.
Me: What kind of tools does Mormonism use for self improvement?
Me: I mean, do you go out and practice certain things? Like charity, meditation, prayer...?
Ashleigh: the life of Jesus Christ
Ashleigh: his teachings
Me: oh
Me: But what do Mormons actually do to cultivate their spirituality?
Ashleigh: we follow jesus chirst
Ashleigh: try and follow his perfect example
Me: And how do you do that, exactly?
Ashleigh: heres a link that explains more
Ashleigh: http://mormon.org/jesus-christ/
Me: Okay, what I am curious about is: "The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the set of instructions we can follow to become clean, find lasting happiness in this life and eventually return to live with God."
Me: Can you tell me a few instructions you follow each day?
Ashleigh: kindness, forgiveness
Ashleigh: why are you curious?
Me: I am just naturally curious about a lot of things. How do you anchor in the practices of kindness and forgiveness? Because a lot of people try to be kind and forgiving, yet they get carried away by their emotions. Do you have any particular techniques to cultivate these desirable emotions?
Ashleigh: i think its different for everyone. we study the scriptures and learn how Jesus treated others. we learn these principles and are able to govern ourselves
Ashleigh: why are you curious about this church in particular?
Me: For example, one Unitarian I met told me that when she had fear or anger, she didn't try to resist it. She would simply acknowledge it and say in her mind "fear is arising". By doing that, she said she relinquished ownership of the emotion.
Me: Ohh no, I am really not. I am sorry if I led you to believe that I was -- I didn't realize you were affiliated with a particular church.
Me: Thank you for your time.
The chat session has ended.

Seriously, I would expect a bit more sophisticated answers from someone who is trying to sell me on their worldview. It's like talking to a zombie.

Yeah, I actually got a little excited when i first started reading this thread, and I was about to go to the website to fuck with them. After reading the chat logs in this thread I see no point in talking to those dumb fucks that answer every question with "Jesus". Its like talking to Moral Oral

Whitney: Hello, my name is Whitney.
Me: hey
Kathryn: how are you?
Me: fine. you?
Me: how come all the mormon missionaries that walk around and knock on peoples' doors are men. but all the mormon missionaries that talk to people on the internet are ladies?
Whitney: my sister served in russia
Whitney: where she knocked on doors
Whitney: my mom served in italy
Whitney: where she knocked on doors
Whitney: and i know plenty of missionaries that are male that do chat like this
Whitney: this is only part of my mission
Whitney: i do spent a lot of time actually talking to real people
Me: i didnt know that. do you have an interesting family?
Whitney: I sure think so.
Whitney: i have a brother and a sister
Whitney: i'm the youngest
Me: where are you from?
Whitney: Washington DC
Me: cool. so why did your mom and sister knock on doors on the other side of the world?
Whitney: as missionaries we can get called anywhere in the world, we are called by revelation, though a prophet. My sister and mom got called to those places
Whitney: My brother went doen to south america to do the same thing
Whitney: we do it because this is something that has brought us so much joy we are willing to give up a year and a half of our life to tell people all about it
Me: why only one and a half years?
Whitney: That's the amout of time the leaders of the church came up with
Me: could you do it longer if you wanted to?
Whitney: yeah you can extend, or you can come back and then if you really wanted you can get called some where else and some other time in your life! It's really a great experience!
Me: but i thought it wasnt about what you wanted to do, but what god wants you to do?
Whitney: Yeah. God want his children to be happy. Missionary work is something that is required or that promotes us in the church, but it's voletary. So if we go, we go where god wants us to go. the decision to go is really something that is between you and go, you look inside youself and pray and come to a conclusion if going of a mission is right for you
Me: how do you know when god wants you to go?
Whitney: you pray about it. You can anytime after 21. I came to the conclusion that i needed to go on a mission at a young age. so right when i turned 21 one i knew it was the right time for me to go
Me: why doesnt god want anyone under 21 to be a missionary?
Whitney: you have so many good questions
Whitney: is it alright if we set up a time and i can call you and answer all your questions
Me: do you have the answer?
Whitney: i do have an answer for you
Me: i know. i accidently sent that after you sent me your other reply
Me: what kind of music do mormons listen to?
Whitney: everything and anything.
Whitney: What your favorite band?singer
Me: wu tang clan
Me: do you like wu tang clan?
Whitney: I've never heard of them before.
Whitney: My favoirte band is Jack's Mannequin and motion city soundtrack
Me: they're good
Me: yuck
Whitney: well i'm our of time. Can we set up a time to finish this conversation?
Me: i dunno. i may come back to this website sometime
Me: is this just like a 9-5 job?
Whitney: no, i'm not getting paid for it and its a 24 hour job, but my time on chat is almost up.
Whitney: I'd love to finishing answering your questions
Whitney: you have some really good ones
Me: how do you sleep?
Me: alrighty
Whitney: haha, well we do take time to sleep, and we have have a day for preperation
Whitney: ok great what time works for you?
Me: i dunno. i have a busy schedule. how many mormons are on the chat at all times?
Me: what are the chances of me talking to you next time?
Whitney: slim to none.
Me: the next time i get on, could i just ask for whitney?
Whitney: how about this, i'll take your e-mail and send you an e-mail and then we can figure out a time
Whitney: you could, but i only spent a small time of my day talking on chat.
Me: i dunno. i guess i'll just meet a new mormon on my next visit
Whitney: but what your e-mail
Whitney: and i'll shoot you and e-mail
Me: i just use it to get gift certificates at claires, but i dont shop at claires anymore, so now i dont ever get on it
Whitney:  haha, i've done that before. ok, well if you like i can take you phone number and leave you a message and we can fingure something out from there
Me: do you know what claires is?
Me: nah, its alright. i like meeting new mormons
Whitney: yeah
Whitney: that's where i buy my head bands
Whitney: and accsessories
Whitney: i have many a head bands from clair, i'm wearing one now infact

I'm happy when people find god and maybe I shouldn't question how they get their considering my troubled past, and how Buddhism and catholic-ness got me there (as well as lots of thinking inspired by astronomy) but damn is Mormonism fucked up.

You may be thinking that's the pot calling the kettle black. I just want to point out that mormons were founded by a conman Joseph Smith, believe blacks don't have a soul, and do posthumous baptism. When I found that out, I put a clause in my will saying if I am posthumously baptised as Mormon I will come back to haunt the bollix off of whoever did it.

That's not a bad thing.  In fact, I would say that it's a very good thing.
You don't have to sink to the level of others just because you don't agree with them.
