im volunteering to do a pretty large site right now. this is definitely my biggest project so far.

I am a full time web developer. I work with jquery (JavaScript), php, html5, ands css3. They usually involving significant amounts of Ajax. I love web development and think it's the way of the future. At work I focus on truly great interface design and application. I love making stuff touch friendly pushing the window of interface conventions without getting over the top with it. I have been working with the web since got my first computer at 12. I was building webpages on my intranet before I could get access to the web. I don't feel like a work, rather get to play all day long. I code everything by hand on a Mac using Coda. I take extreme pride in writing simple and clean code.

I'm in the process of becoming self employed. I don't know whether I am more a web developer or graphic designer. IDK I like doing them both equally as much. Today with the advent of such adobe software the designer can have a great ease at developing websites. With flash catalyst, AIR, dreamnweaver, etc... it seems like some of the development struggles that were such a pain back in the day have finally subsided. The designer/developer can focus more on the design side of things without having to always focus on the back end of websites and struggling to maintain them.

Just because they label themselves or earn a web developer title doesn't mean that you are one. A quality developer, regardless of label, is one that stands the test of time, peer and client scrutiny, and the willingness to change and evolve with the technology. A web developer to me is one who knows no boundaries of platform or even device mediums and is always on the bleeding edge. The web has become such an integral part of every system in the world and it's the job of a good developer to make all this information available and integrated with the available APIs.

At work, we have a guy that does nothing but designing mock ups, writing semantically correct markup and CSS that degrades gracefully. I come in after to the fact and plugin all the dynamic data, integrate with Twitter, pull in word press feeds when needed, and depending on the project, I build various forms and admin panels to manage data.

Recently I have switched over to expressionengine as a CMS and codeigniter as a php framework for custom applications. I really enjoy expressionengine a lot and was certainly worth the money.

A big site with lots of functionality can't be done in a timely fashion with one guy, at least not the way we do it. We all work together as a team at what we do best to get the job done. I personally don't do any work with graphics. I am a code junkie...

yeah I wouldn't consider myself a developer, I not only enjoy designer but thats what I do almost exclusively.

i love codeigniter! my workflow is alot faster and I reuse alot of code making projects easier.

daytripper05 and tak, any reason you prefer Codeigniter over Kohana 3? I'm just now starting to seriously evaluate frameworks for a major project and I'm interested in the reasoning behind your decision.

I did a lot of research (for years really) before settling on codeigniter. I have no experience with the other php frameworks. I settled on codeigniter because a lot of big names in the business are using it or other products by Ellise Labs. Ryan Irelan, Dan Benjamin, and sites like A List Apart are using expression engine which is made on top of Codeigniter. These guys are huge on standards.

I am using expressionengine (a modular cms system & framework) and it's a really awesome tool. I love it more everyday. I could see how the novice or less savy person could be tangle up in the complexities, but a month of delving into it, I am writing addons to flip the bill. In my opinion, expressionengine and codeigniter do just enough to make my life easy, while still letting me getting the satisfaction of building my own product that doesn't feel prepackaged. The both provide a good baseline amount of functionality, but more importantly do to the design of the framework, it's really easy to make it do more things.

The code is extremely elegant and easy to follow. It's rare that I can dive into the guts of an application and it just makes since from the start.

I am satisfied and have no real reason to explore other avenues...anything codeigniter or expressionengine can't do, I can simple write (or find) an addon to do the job for me.

I'm having a hell of a time tryting to update my nvidia drivers on my laptop(a505) so I can use the 3d features on photoshop, respousse and waht not. but I've constantly been getting random errors, just 'error' or 'failed to find the right hardware'. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, the drivers I found were on nvidias site, and I've tried 3-4 different ones far back as 09'.
