question on puffballs

I found some puffballs growing on a stump. The inside is white, turning yellow towards maturity. Should I not worry about poison puffballs as long as I can be sure they aren't earthballs? I plan on eating them tonight.

I've seem Scleroderma citrinum fruit on stumps. Should be easy to tell apart though. Can you post some pics?

The key in mushrooms demystified led me the wrong way, as usual. I guess I just need to read the book first.

Morganella pyriformis  :thumbup:

Clusters are one giveaway.

The others are Lycoperdon perlatum or another Lycoperdon sp., also :thumbup:.  :smile:

Once the inside turns color other than white they're generally considered inedible. Hopefully you got some that were still that young.
