Well, sooner or later all the green ideas will come to fruition. Meantime, virtually every thing we use in daily life for communication and transportation contains something that was mined. So it will be with us for some time to come. Use it for now, and work toward alternatives in the future.
Once reconciled to this, then the resource sector jobs become attractive. And, the best way to get the entire industry to change is from within, not from outside. So a good number of like minded employees using thier knowledge and expertise to influence the corporation will be much more effective than street protests.
As an EIT you can still get all over the world working for mining. Check out Freeport McMoran, they are in Indonesia (great place, I was there) and in the Congo. In addition they have operations all over the southwest in the US. Still, many companies look for your skills, good hours, good pay, lots of time off.
