Extracting DMT - cloudy naptha?

i'm following the stb tek exactly. this is after about 2 hours of freezing the naptha




should it be this cloudy? should i dump it all back into the base solution and let it settle more?

if it wasn't that cloudy going into the freezer, i'd say the dmt is crashing out, put it back in the icebox.

I'm not familiar with that tek but did you defat before converting to freebase?

There is no need to do that with STB


Envix did you use distilled water I had the exact same thing happen to me when I attempted the tek with well water it went all cloudy and the DMT never precipitated out of the solution even after four days.

when i tip it upside down with the cap on it looks like a layer of naptha is frozen, stuck to the bottom of the glass. or is that crystals? whatever it is it is very yellow

Cloudy is good, it means there's DMT in there and it's crashing out of solution. If it stays cloudy that means either your freezer isn't cold enough or the solution isn't saturated enough. Easy fix to both those problems would be to evaporate half the solvent and turn your freezer down to lowest temp possible.

I've done the stb tek and my naptha never looked like that.  Good cloudy means you can see wisps of white stuff (crystals) floating throughout clear naptha.  Sorry I don't have any advice, just letting you know that mine never looked like that at any point during my extractions.

okaay now the naptha in the base solution has become so dark the color is barely distinguishable from the base solution. is this bad?

how do i know if an emulsion has formed?

The frozen layer is probably the water.  I read that chopsticks are good for stirring and breaking emulsions, I just started reading about this stuff but it looks like you got some material in there.  Was it clear clear when it was pulled?

when it was pulled it was kinda clear but pretty damn yellow. the naptha in the base solution isn't even yellow anymore now it's just a barley lighter color than the solution itself. almost black

Not 100% on the colors because lime was used for a base in my book but it sounds like an emulsion a lot of people break them with a hot water bath or vibration, when I saw pulls they were barely tinted yellow almost not even noticeable.

nothin wrong with yellow naphta. just dont pull anything that's brown or purple

will that clear up when i dump the freezer naptha back in it?

i don't understand what you mean naphta in base solution. if you shake it and wait a few hours it should be completely seperated

oh never mind i see what your saying, yah i'm not sure, i guess just dump it in and see if it clears up or not.

well i added some table salt to the base and that didn't really do anything. so i got as much of the naptha out of the top of the base water as i could and this is what i got



still see-through, but just barely


i added 75ml of clean naptha to the base solution but it's still pretty dark like the old naptha i just took out

i used rooto 100% lye and vm&p naptha. but the root bark i used wwas very very very finely powdered

Well thats no emulsion you have there, it could be that the dark purplish tint of the mimosa migrated into the naptha tainting it.

I have never seen or heard of this problem before, you could crank your freezer way way down like the other person said and leave it in there for a few days solid, but other then that my only other suggestion would be throw it out and start anew :shrug:

It's might be tiny particles since it was so fine, let it sit and see if the brown settles out than you can decant into another container.  If that doesn't work you might have to do an a/b on it.
