Need 2 confirmations and 1 ID

Habitat:
Found growing out of a hole in a young sweet gum tree (trying to get the pic off of a cell phone, forgot the real cam, doh)

Gills:
White

Stem:
3-4" white

Cap:
3-4" white and kind of washed out

Spore print color:
Pending

Bruising:
Didn't really notice any but there seemed to a little yellow staining like you see on some oysters

Other information:
Smells sort of flowery like oysters or a big yummy bolete.

As for the confirmations;
armillaria tabescens?

Spore print: Pending.

Calvatia cyathiformis?

#1 may be a Clitocbye sp.

#2 and #3 you got correct I believe. 

Although I'd wait for a TI before I would eat #2 but they aren't any poisonous Calvatia sp. so as long as it's white all the way through have at it.

Hmm....

From what information is available, I'm almost certain it is not Clitocybe phyllophila. I also believe that it is unlikely to be any type of Clitocybe sp that i know of... The only Clitocybe that I know of so far that grows from wood is the Wood Clitocybe which is distinctly yellow with black hairs covering it.
I would like to point out that there is no way the mushroom was growing out of soil or anything like that within the hole in the tree. It was a very small hole and the tree was tiny but fairly disfigured by something (probably the fungi).
The mushroom pictures presented are uncleaned or washed, i would of expected some sort of soil to have come along with the mushroom.

This thing was REALLY attached, it really took a lot of strength to get it out and it went POP when it finally did. lol.

(my camera color is BAD, that mushroom is very much white to cream at worst, the yellow spots on the base of the stem and the cap really are yellow to compare)

This one is throwing me for a loop, the cap is reminiscent of an oyster but the stem is just HUGE X_X

Is it possible that this in an Elm Oyster?
The pictures on google of elm oysters don't look much like that guy at all but the description in my Audobon Society book describes the gills as attached and the flesh as white and firm. Which matches up

When I read the description for some reason my mind thought that there would be soil in this hole in the tree.  I should pay better attention.  Probably not a Clitocybe sp. after all.

Ah it's alright. I think that something in your mind was the guy who posted the other day saying he found a mushroom in a tree when really he meant that it was growing from the soil inside of the remnants of a tree.

But no, this tree was fairly healthy other than the disfigurement and the big mushroom growing out of it. lol.

Just tried the puffballs sauteed with a little canola oil and a little bit of prego spaghetti sauce (we're having spaghetti for dinner) and they are YUMMY.
The texture is very different from any other mushroom I've tried so far but I found it to be very pleasant. I just wish I had some fresh parmesean or some feta to sprinkle over top.
I had no idea that puffballs in my region were an option. We nearly tripped over a good few pound of them as well as their dead brothers that fruited in the summer. All just coming down an old logging trail that had tick grass covering it on our way home.

I'd really appreciate a TI's input on my suspect ringless honeys as well as a hint leading towards to an ID of the weird tree dwelling sp. I understand that my pictures aren't the greatest nor is my description, so a kick towards the right direction in research would be a big help.

i'd rule out elm oyster but thats just me... I flipped through like 30 page and the yellow kinda says no IMO

It's not yellow, it's white. My white balance is TERRIBLE

sweet gum for certain

it was a young disfigured tree with a small hole in it with this huge mushroom sticking out of the hole, he also had 2 brothers with him (very small) that looked similar.

I've heard the oyster mushrooms can grow on sweet gums but i'm not sure about elm oysters since they're a different genus.

like i said, this mushroom fits the audobon society's text description but not it's picture, i also cannot find an example of an elm oyster that resembles this one, most of them have a different color as well as a different sort of gill attachment to the stem.
