Found these in their thousands under scots pine.
In an area that had been clear cut of all deciduous
trees last winter, so many dead roots in the soil.
Deep pine needle and chipped hardwood plus many
spread fire sites soil type.
inturned cap margin, and the rest hopefully you can see from the
pictures, spore printing now, so unsure yet, but gills
are pretty orange.
Cone forming to hold water like a shallow cup.
I was thinking some sort of Clitocybe, but unsure which one.
any one have any thoughts on it?
Something found deep in the wood on saterday night >;]

At first glance Clitocybe sems like a reasonable guess.
If the gills are very orange and repeatedly forked, then they may be Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca (False Chanterelle). They certainly resemble that species.
If they're Clitocybes, then they'll be pretty tough to ID to species. All the Clitocybes are drab whites, grays, tans, and browns, and there isn't all that much variation until you look with a microscope.
Since many species of Clitocybe have muscarine in them, you shouldn't eat them. Although unlikely to kill you, a might on muscarine will be memorable as one of the sickest nights of your life.
There are other genera that resemble Clitocybe, but most of them involve species that are all white, not orangish. Also, if the spore print comes out pinkish, then they may fall into the genus Lepista.

I'd be inclined towards clitocybe as well. I've been finding similar mushrooms some weeks ago (haven't had time to scan&post).

I like the pic of the shroom growing directly from the pinecone. Clitocybe inversa is one clitocybe I occasionally find doing this in the UK.

They contain muscarine? I thought that was specific to the amanita muscaria species. And yes, muscarine is not pleasant. You sweat a ton, and lots of nausea. But drying or cooking should get rid of it.

Amanita muscaria contains only very tiny amounts of muscarine, even though it was discovered in that species. The primary toxins are muscimol and ibotenic acid.
Several species of Clitocybe contain high amounts of muscarine, most notably Clitocybe dealbata. The other genus notorious for its muscarine content is Inocybe.

I think you could be right with it being
Hygrophoropsis aurantiaca (False Chanterelle). 
I'll double check tomorrow, but i think you got it as usual

Got a better gill shot using macro and a faster
shutter speed ( this made things less wobbly )
This also shows up the colours better. Shame its
not an edible, as while walking for 30 mins i was
never further than 10 feet form them.
Printing a few more fresher ones than last time, so
should have a 100% id soon :] hopefully

With that last photo, those gills look blunt enough to be true chanterelles, as Mitchnast said. If so, they should also have a sort of fruit like odor to them. Sometimes I have to put them in a bag for a few hours for the smell to develop, but it's pretty consistent with chanterelles. False chanterelles never have the smell.
Another difference is texture. The false chanterelles usually have a relatively very soft texture, and true chanterelles are always pretty firm (at least until they start rotting).

just thought i'd toss in a few cents, since i am certain that those mushrooms are hygrophoropsis aurantiaca .
here in oregon we have them by the shit-ton. it's all about the decaying wood, with those guys. i often find them in the woods where i hunt chanterelles and boletus edulis, both at the coast and up in the cascades. definitely a common mushroom with many variations in color. those gills are ridge-like, as they should be, but as t-m says, the mushrooms themselves should be spongy and soft, not firm, as the chanterelles would be.
the color more than anything is the give away, as you will see over time...

Spore print is on off white, lightly grey white.
So yeah, I agree there prob hygrophoropsis aurantiaca.
shame there only false :[ as i havent found chanterelles yet :[
and there must be 100000 in that part of the woods.
