Edible Puffball?
    #13277506 -

Any idea on what these two species are and if they're eatable?

I'm thinking the large one is Calvatia gigantea - Giant puffball, and the small ones are Lycoperdon pyriforme - Pear-shaped Puffball.

Habitat:

Growing in a woodland park under trees in Southern Ontario.

The large one being roughly 8 inches in diameter was growing from the soil.

The small ones were growing in the same area but on a dead Birch tree.

Gills:

The large one was white inside and out with no visible gills or spores.

The small ones have a slight yellow/tan colour on the outside and white on the inside with no visible gills or spores.

Stem:

N/A

Cap:

N/A

Spore print color:

N/A

Bruising:

No bruising.

Other information:

Both have a mushroomy smell.

You second one is Lycoperdon pyroforme, and is edible while young and white throughout.

Both those IDs seem correct.

Thanks! I'm hoping so.

I've started some PDA dishes of both.
