God is imaginary. * 1
    #13169429 -

I was raised Catholic, and never questioned it.  Why would my parents, and so many other people in the world be lying to me?  I always thought atheists were just bad people that deep down knew there was a God.  Surely everyone that didn't believe in God, along with all other religions were going to hell right?

Well lately I've been questioning God.  He hasn't ever done anything in my life for me.  I have NEVER heard the voice of God. (and why not?) If he is all powerful, all knowing, and everywhere at once, surely it would not be too much of a burden to say "hi" at least once in my life.  In the days of the Bible, Jesus appeared to many people in the flesh.  Why can't he just appear to me once?

So why do so many people believe in God?  Cause it sucks to know when we die that's it.  It sucks to know there is no heaven or hell.  It sucks to know this life is truly all we have.

Think about other religions.  Muslims believe in their religion so much they commit suicide for it.  Thousands of ancient Aztecs performed sacrifices, and ate the hearts of virgins.  We know this is a false religion or we would be sacrificing virgins today.  The Egyptians spent tons of resources and man hours building huge pyramids to their gods.  We know this is a false religion or we would be mummifying our dead today.

I'm not great at explaining things.  I found this website with 50 reasons why God is imaginary.  Whether you do or do not believe in God, I challenge you to read just the first 10 of them with an open heart.  Post back here AFTER you have done so, and tell me your thoughts.

I;m honestly not trying to stir up trouble, or convert any Christians.  Today is the first day in my life I am 100% certain that God is imaginary, and I just want some other peoples thoughts on the matter.  Oh and the closest contrast to this website I could find was "6 reasons God exists"  lol 6...  really?  They are not even facts, its just stuff like "the sky is too pretty for there not to be a God" lol...

P.s. Ever notice most Christians are some of the craziest and dumbest people in the world, while most atheists are some of the smartest people in the world (like scientists)  The south has the highest percentage of Christians, and the lowest grade point average...

The South isn't Christian. It's a bunch of miserable low-breds using religion to justify chiken stompin', dog shootin' and sadistic pedophilia - you got to find another example because no one thinks of the South as Christian

I'm glad you were able to move past the childhood brainwashing and indoctrination, however well-meaning your parents and teachers were.

This was also something I figured out for myself as a teenager, although I was raised in very liberal theological circles.

I eventually realized that to primitive man, god was just a way of explaining what they didn't understand, which back then was pretty much everything.  Thunder and lightning, earthquakes and floods, crop seasons and famine could all be explained away by a giant invisible man in the sky who they had to perform special rituals to please.

I also realized the absurdity of being any one religion, when there have been many many thousands of gods and different religions throughout history, and almost every last one of them firmly believed that they alone were correct and all thousands of other gods were false.

God will show you purpose when you are ready for it. Faith is not a substitute for living this life to the fullest.

50 reasons why God is imaginary?  You only need one reason: Humans made him up.  Insecure people always need to have the answers to everything.  They can't stand the fact that we really don't know what the fuck is going on and we don't know shit about shit yet.

We've only explored around 5% of the ocean for example.  Don't get me started on how little we know about the universe.  And yet some people are stupid and arrogant enough to think they know for certain God exists. Get the fuck out of here you fools and live your life because of YOU, not some imaginary fairy.  You will be much happier when you find God is within yourself and not some external white bearded guy in the sky constantly judging and watching you.  How does that make sense to anyone?

Dawkins makes the silliest mistake: assuming science and belief in god get in the way of eachother.

pretty noob mistake

evolution is a pretty shitty way to create species for a supposedly omnipotent god

Why would you say that? do you even know how evolution works? hell no, we have glimpses of it but that's it. what, you would prefer him to snap his fingers and for everything is to be in its place?

I'd say nature is quite elegant and beautiful. "evolution is a pretty shitty way to create species" hahahah what a statement - tell me, how would you go about doing it? :rolleyes:

Forcing human beings to go around killing and raping each other for many many many thousands of years and then shaking his finger at them when they masturbate, as eloquently described by Mr. Lewis, seems a little goofy.  There's so much shit wrong with CS Lewis and his twisted but wordy screeds that I'll have to finish writing it down later

God doesnt need to be imaginary, since "God" isn't a defined concept. Nobody has ever defined God in such a way that he can be proven to exsist/not exsist. He's just an ever changing concept, to fit into whatever unexplainable mystery you dont understand.

"God is UP THERE in heaven" - 1000 years later; up there is just more nothingness. Ohh! God's heaven is an eternal place outside of space..
"God made people" - 1000 years later; evolution did it. Ohh! God started evolution!

and bla bla bla, and that's how it will always work.. How people don't see thorugh this is just fascinating..

You missed the point yet again, of course.

YES OF FUCKING COURSE EVOLUTION is beautiful and elegant.

Buuuttt the best thing about it is it doesn't NEED a caveman ooga booga skydaddy to do anything.

All these awesome beautiful animals that we have to study, including ourselves, a mutant offspring breed of apes, are the result of natural processes given the right environmental conditions.

Your mysterious cosmic policeman is the result of bronze age thinking, while practical unbiased science has given us a glimpse, as you said, of what put us here.

God is a totally UNSCIENTIFIC concept. It sets no testable hypothesis, no experiments, it doesn't even offer a clear definition of what god is, it is based merely on what "feels" right to you,oh and plus god totally came into your head and revealed his radiance to you, just cause you're one of the lucky "receptive" ones.

hmm well, 'if you truly seek, you will find' is an idea that's in the bible in a few places - but you have to seek it (read:put in effort and learn and reflect)

So a sense that most may have to develop to truly appreciate...

God is in your head you religious fools.  Wake up and smell reality for once instead of hiding behind some invisible shield.  Or is the thought of dying without an afterlife or some other fairy tale bullshit just too uncomfortable for you to digest?

Also, god is still in your head.
