I like refried beans on their own, as an accompanyment on a platter of food.

But for nachos I much prefer using just whole pinto beans. My whole thing is I dont like to turn the toppings into just a giant pile of mush, which generally happens when people use a mound of refried beans. The chips in the middle and bottom of the mound end of being all soggy, etc.

Does anyone find beans (refried or otherwise) really bitter and just plain old unpleasant? I do whatever i can to replace beans in nachos with something else with texture, such as diced tomatoes.

whats funny is that beans aren't even used that much in authentic mexican food.

I like beans occasionally, but they really have to be in the right setting. For instance, certain curries are very appropriate for beans.

Although I was also never a big fan of beans in my chili.

if your chips get soggy you are doing something wrong, ive never had that problem with frijoles refritos

chips getting soggy is inevitable if you have toppings sort of, piled in a mound.

And refried beans definitely soggys chips alot quicker than whole pinto beans.

But to each his own. I just have a number of personal preference reasons as to why i dont like refried beans in my nachos.

there was sour cream and homemade guacamole. no chives on hand, and fuck tapatio when i gots me a decent dose of sriracha.
