Edible Puffball?

I'm wondering if this is the edible Puffball and also what the proper name would be.

Found growing in a sandy/gravel 'soil' in a cool and damp type environment in Mattawa Ontario.



4 inches round but may have gotten bigger if allowed to grow.

Firm but spongy, not hard. Has a 'mushroomey' smell.

Could be Calvatia cyathiformis.  If it is then it's listed as a choice edible in the Audubon guide.  Wait for a TI to confirm though.

Yep, Calvatia cyathiformis, looks like yours is already turning a little yellow, might not be so good at this point, everything I've heard about eating them says to only eat the white ones. I haven't tried this puffball but any puffballs that I have eaten, I've eaten while they were still white inside.
