Wait, is 5 Pts. safe now?
All gentrified?
I used to promote/spin Saturday nights @ the Roxy (before it got fixed up) and damn, they were crazy times.  We never really made any money, but we made lots of friends!
First time I've ever saw a gun shot in a club (it was after hours and just for fun/target practice).
There were still bullet holes back stage behind the dj booth last time I checked.

I'd be down for meeting-up with other shroomerites in Colorado.  Unfortunately I can't go to the Telluride mushy festival, anyone going to any of the Furthur shows at Red Rocks late next month?  I'm going to all three shows. :awebig:

5 points is pretty amazing, except for the annoying moderny-soviet-bloc-pseuso-artsy condos every once in a while (Gentrification sure looks weird.  I suppose it's proof that wealth still can't buy class).  People have been fixing up a lot of the places, and normies live here now.  It's close to downtown, there are a lot of music venues pretty close, and it's not just a place for white people to go to get shot or get crack anymore.

I'm not going to make the mushroom fest in Telluride either, but it's wild mushrooms season in CO right now (I've been finding all sorts of boletes), and there are all sorts of spots to go camping/mush hunting within an hour or two of Denver...

Your journey is pretty amazing OP.  Sounds like you really lucked out.

I have been wanting to visit Colorado for quite awhile.  What parts are best for 30 somethings who don't care to go to stupid frat parties or raves?

I love:

biking
hiking
picking shrooms
camping
drinking new beers at microbrews
picking up hot chicks

I would prefer to avoid:

frat parties or sides of town that cater to that lifestyle
the ghettoooo
raves
the general differences between your 20's and 30's if you get my drift

so with all that mind, where is good?

As far as biking & hiking, southwest of town is best I think.  Deer Creek Canyon  and Waterton Canyon are great for both.  There's a good bike trail that goes through a large portion of the Denver Metro area called the Highland Canal.

For camping, the mountains are your playground!  Personally, I think the best area to camp in is southwestern Colorado (think Telluride/Gunnison/Montrose area).  It's a good 6-8 hour drive from Denver, but it's definitely worth it!

I'm not really a beer drinker, so I'm no expert when it comes to microbreweries, but I know some good ones are in downtown Denver...which, coincidentally enough, is a good area to meet good-looking women.

I don't know anything about frat parties or raves, since I'm not interested in either of those lifestyles.  The only area I can think of that would qualify as a "ghetto" in Denver is East Colfax...or as I like to say, Eas' Co'fax.  Colfax is a major east-west road that goes from Lakewood on the west side of town to Aurora (aka Saudi Aurora) on the east side of town.  Five Points used to be ghetto-ish (not anymore as someone else already posted), but in comparison to other major cities in the U.S., Denver is fortunately lacking in that dept.
