http://www.screentekinc.com/lcd-removal-instructions_en,macbookpro.shtml gives a step by step.

http://www.iresq.com/macbook-repair/macbook-pro.html is talking about half the price to do the work for you.

Good luck!

It's expensive as hell to get repaired, but you can do it yourself for like $100. Maybe a little more. It depends what kind of deal you can get on an LCD that fits your laptop. I had to do the same thing, but it was on a Dell. I know mac is pretty gay about their hardware so it might be more expensive to get the screen you need.

Depends upon the model of the MBP as to how difficult it is to change out.  You will need, at a minimum, a Torx #6 and a small Philips driver.  Depending upon the model, you might also need a trilobe trox or one of the torx secure plus (which you probably can't find).

On the older MBP, the LCD panel was pretty easy to remove from the display assembly.  On the newer models, it is a pain in the ... Lots of glue.

On the newer version, don't forget to move the airport card from the old display to the new display, if you swap out the entire display assembly.  The airport card is under the black plastic spacer between the hinges.  With the display assembly off, the black plastic slides to the right (if you are looking at the screen), then snaps off.  It can be difficult to do the first few times you try.

I just replaced the headphone jack on an iPhone 3G last night.  You wanna talk pain in the ass, holy fuck.  Took almost 3.5 hours.  Your screen is almost certainly doable, just takes some patience.

I used to fix mac laptop screens a lot. Just google a walk through. ifixit.com is okay but sometimes they make you do unnecessary things to get out the monitor (like taking out the whole top bezel before removing the lcd).

It's really not that hard, the worst part is the plastic snapping pieces because they always feel like they're about to snap in half.

Do yourself a favor and go to RadioShack and get one of the small screwdriver sets like this.

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3932539

I've got the same one and it has everything you need to take apart a mac laptop. I've used it to take apart my 7 year old Powerbook a few times as well as all sorts of other phones and small electronics.

If it is a newer MBP like he said, with the glass over the LCD panel and a unibody design, then it is going to be a much different beast.  I've not tried to do an LCD panel on one of these.  I just replace the entire display assembly (moving over the airport card).  The older ones were pretty easy, as everything was held together with a few screws, some plastic tabs, and tape.  The new ones use a lot of glue instead.

Removing the display assembly is pretty easy.  Remove the 10 screws from the bottom using a small Phillips driver.  Pull off the bottom.  Remove the three screws holding in the battery (usually with a special driver.)  Remove the battery.  Remove the two strain relief cable guides (top left and right) with a Phillips driver.  Remove the LVDS cable (top right) and the utility cable (center left).  Remove the six screws that hold the hinges down (torx #6).  Display comes free.  Getting the LCD panel out of the display assembly... no idea.

you can buy security bit sets, like 25 or 30 of them for $25 and less and they'll cover anything electronic

The drivers are still covered by a patent and are not available to the general public.  These are torx drivers that have five lobes instead of six... not the six lobed torx with the hole in the middle.  However, there are only a few models of Apple laptops that use these to secure the battery.  The trilobe driver, which is easy to find, is much more commonly used by Apple.

Laptop monitor replacement is a common practice and is extremely easy to do. All you need is a set of small screwdrivers and a new monitor. You can find out what monitor to buy by looking at the numbers on the actual part or checking online, they usually run between 120-240 dollars, sometimes less. You will need to take apart the laptop, replace the part and reassemble it. I learned how to do this by just diving in, you can to. At times it may seem like you are going to break the laptop. A general knowledge of laptop hardware design is what will help you the most, knowing where to pry apart snaps, and where to find the screws. The entire thing will have to come apart to get the monitor out most likely, and you will probably have to seperate the lid from the body in doing so.

I did it literally three-four times a week last semester, college kids step on their laptops all the time.

If it's a Mac you're basically fucked. They're designed in such a retarded way that putting them back together and taking them apart without damaging them is insidiously difficult.
