No one forced him to join the army. I'm not your boy and I hope you don't ever have any influence on one. Do you even know what set up this war? It's a lot deeper than just watching what Fox News tells you or really any of those TV news channels do. It's not my fault I investigate what my government does before joining their cause.

That guy seems to be enjoying his job pretty nicely in the movie. He's not even going into the action, all he does is complain about how he's there. I'm so fucking tired of people putting themselves up on the cross when they keep saying they did it out of compassion for me and everybody around me. I didn't make him join the army or decide it was a better option than working a little harder in high school to get a scholarship to a good college or even just work a minimum wage job so that he could put himself through classes at the local community college to catch himself up for his realized short comings in high school.

The Mahdi Militia was one of the major fuels of the sectarian violence that was destabilizing the country, and the peak of the insurgency in Iraq. After it had consumed most locals divided by their religions, it began influencing the government as well as police - these corrupt police were abusing their authority to do the bidding of the militia.

How would you feel if you were training a police force made up of individuals, who:

A. Do not want to walk into the same firefight as your fellow soldiers to re-stabilize their country.

B. Went home after that training, and joined this anti-peace militia in killing rival Shiites and the Americans protecting their neighborhoods

and finally

C. Did not hardly do shit to secure their own neighborhoods once trained and armed with weapons we provided them.

It's not so much that those police are just completely incompetent, as the country is completely divided by religious ideology, and do not want to help the opposing religion.

I don't think that guy was an asshole at all for what he did, and if you don't agree, join the army and work through that bull shit yourself putting your life on the line daily - and then come tell us that he was being an asshole :shrug:

Every argument breaks down when you accept the fact that we shouldn't even be there in the first place.  So if the initial reason is bullshit, then every reason thereafter cannot be anything else other than bullshit.  People can go on forever debating the ins and outs of Iraqi society and their militias and their gov't and how they are working with U.S. soldiers, etc.  BUT, all that arguing is pointless since we shouldn't even be there in the first place.  We just walked right in, why can't we just walk right out. We've got our own issues to deal with here.  Stop the BS war, cut the defense budget and lets use a fraction of the hundreds of billions of dollars to put towards education and infrastructure right here in America.  Our social services break down, our infrastructure is collapsing and people sit around and scratch their heads wondering how and why! The war is a brilliant filtration system for our tax dollars to find deep, corrupt pockets.  And you can't have a debate about whether some soldier is badass or not if he shouldn't even be in that position in the first place.  This war is bullshit.

I think we keep saying the same thing over and over to no avail. I was really disturbed that our countries defense budget is more than the next 9 or 10 countries behind us put together. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fact that we owe people so much money and have nothing to back up our literal monopoly money that has nothing to back it.
