Re: This time it is about oil. [Re: luvdemshrooms]

"my point was that France doesn't want to join in the war because it would jeopardize their oil contracts with Iraq. "

That and the fact that this war is not justified, and they see no reason to throw away thier good trade relations over a bunch of US propoganda. I mean they could be all for the war and negotiate a slice after the pies baked, but they already have a piece so why would they join this conflict?

Good for france!

and this is news?
From the sound of the title and your tone you would think you were somehow trying to validate the u.s on there war for oil?are you?
Its not me you need to tell this fact that oil = important to all involved its yourself that needs this to sink in.I'm quite aware of this fact.
You seem to think its all about your countrys self protection and not there willingness to rape another older country of theres.
Do you hold that view?or are you expecting iraq to invade?anyone in the near future?

On the contrary, I thought that LDS was trying to demonstrate that even countries who are opposed to the war (ie France) are still acting out of their own want/need to get a share of the oil resources in Iraq.

I could be wrong.

He's said that oil is a major reason why the US is going to war. Like mushymay said, he's trying to point out frace's hypocritical stance.

If it were all about the oil, how come we don't invade any countries in South America?

Oil is a major reason for wanted to attack Iraq, but we wouldn't be going to war with Saddam if he had proven that he destroyed his chemical weapons.

Stonedfish, this is probably the 15th time I've said this to you. Feel free to ignore it (again) so you can continue misuing WW2 as an example to illustrate your asinine points. The USA did not get involved in WW2 until we were attacked at Pearl Harbor. We didn't jump in out of the goodness of our hearts to save the world.

Oh, and BTW, in the very next sentence after the one you were responding to I said the exact same thing your reply did. You so smart.

And we also wouldn't be going to war with Iraq if he didn't have any oil. Is it really 50/50 each reason? Or do you think maybe there is only one reason we are going, and one reason we hide behind that has nothing to do with it?

I don't recall ever saying we did. You completely missed the point of this comparison.

Stonedfish...do ever even read the papers? The U.S. is trying to sponsor a coup in South America (Venezuela to be precise) as we speak...The are trying to get rid of a leader (President Hugo Chavez) that has already been DEMOCRATICALLY elected 6 times in 4 years...Otto Reich, the Special Envoy for the Western Hemisphere of the State Department, recently denounced the Venezuelan government, saying that, ?the existence of elections is not enough to say that a country is democratic.?...ummm...huh???

But if France joins arms with us and helps defeat Iraq then wouldn't they get a better deal?

Me: "That doesn't surprise me. The US always has ulterior motives besides what we plaster around as our cause when we do things. Yes genius, I do mean like every other country. Excerpt from my above post which you were responding to: "I suppose it is pretty naive to expect something different from another country."

Or do you mean we sometimes do. We didn't fight in WWII to get Germany's oil.

Learn to read. The only thing I was illustrating was what a bunch of hypocritical assholes the French are.

Although I'm going to add that I suggest that you work on your comprehension skills and that you not try to put words into anothers mouth since you suck at it.

They already have a deal with the Iraqis. Who's to say which deal would be better or even if there would be a deal at all. It would depend on whatever Iraqi group controls the oil fields afterwards.
