For the past few months, the French parliment has been nothing but a pain in the US ass. NOW, they say, "France said Tuesday it could help a U.S.-led military coalition if Iraq" - used biological or chemical weapons, despite blasting Washington's war ultimatum to Baghdad as unjustified. - http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20030318/wl_nm/iraq_france_dc_5
What bullshit!
Iraq has use chemical weapons ON THEIR OWN PEOPLE!! Where was France then?
Pick a side and stand with it. Make a decision and follow it through. Must be nice to be able to play both sides of the fence. I guess if "we win" France will say, "hi old buddy" and if "we loose" they'll just say, "we told ya so".
/me stomps off and vents ...

I like France and the French women. I love those hairy French women. Ooo la la, hehehe.
Now shut the fuck up. I'm so tired of this French bashing. The French are great. So they're against war, big fucking deal. God forbid we should have peace!
Now you bring up using poison gas on the Kurds and where was France. Where was the white house you might wonder too? Sticking up for Saddam after the asshole did this. After the gassing of the Kurds in the village of Halabja, Sens. Claiborne Pell, Jesse Helms and Al Gore, pushed the Prevention of Genocide Act of 1988 to impose sanctions upon the Iraqi regime. This act was vetoed by President Reagan. Bush gave Saddam a billion dollar loan a year after it happened too. So fuck them, fuck Reagan and fuck Bush and their fuck genocide loving ways. Fuck them or hell Lana if you want to fuck you can suck me off but don't say Fuck France.
I hate genocide. If there's any reason for this awful war that is it. It hits close to home and reminds me of the holocaust we suffered. But don't go blaming the French for that. They didn't do it. And I like them.

Right on, man! I'm tempted to go into a restaurant and order some FRENCH fries, FRENCH toast, and the FRENCH dip, and if they correct me and call them freedom fries, I'll stick a fork up their ass! It's not that I love France more than the U.S.--It's just that I'm so fucking sick of this childish name-calling of the French. Why are we making such a big deal out of the fact that they don't support our foreign policy? P.S.: Back in High School, I was tutored by an old lady who was in the French Resistance during WWII. She's been through more shit than you can imagine, and I bet she's pissed off about everyone calling the French wimps.

Lets not forget the reason why France gave the USA such a wonderful gift like the Statue of Liberty.
-------------------- The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame". In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience. And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him. "Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

What don't you understand about this? They are against the war because there is no proof that Iraq has these claimed weapons. If Iraq were to attack UK/US forces with banned weapons then it would prove they had them all along, thus allowing the rest of the UN to use force if neccessary.

My point to this is...
Make a decision and stick with it. As for "where was the US when Iraq was using chemical warfare"
Why is it our job? Isn't it that of the UN? Where was the UN when this was going on? Answer me that.
I mean if you want to play the blame game this thread will last forever. My point is that it simply must be nice to play both sides of the fence.

They are sticking to it. They don't support action without proof, if proof were to arise then they would support it, simple. Innvertigo: I highly doubt that anyone said such a thing. Villepin is quoted as saying "In the event of a second resolution... we will not associate ourselves with military intervention that is not supported by the international community''"

Everyone keeps yapping about Saddam using chemical weapons against his own people (as if the US government has never killed its own people)...of course, such actions are horrible.. but... they're complaining NOW; where the hell was all the war mongering when it was actually happening? This all stinks right up the yin yang.

That resolution was always interpreted in different ways. When it was signed the France said that they succeeded in removing from it the possibility of automatic use of force, while USA said that the automatic use of force is possible according to that resolution. So basically they always backed up the resolution as they understood it.

Well there are 30 countries and 15 backers that disagree with france and the promises made by the UN in 1441. There has never been a discussion until after france buckled about automatic invasion. This is some serious backtracking. If france showed reservation in 1441 then i'd agree with you.

Eh... I have to search the net now. I'll try to find the sources but do you really care? I got the info I quoted from the TV news in my country. I remember it from that time: There were negotiations about resolution 1441. The first draft made by USA was not accepted by France & Russia because it implied the automatic use of force. The USA changed a sentence to a different formulation to please them and then everybody signed it. Immediately after that they held a press conference where: - French & Russian said that the corrected resolution does not imply automatic use of force and that's why they signed it. - USA said that even the corrected resolution implies automatic use of force.

1441: http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2002/SC7564.doc.htm OK. Here's something... A press release of French embassy in Canada from 12.11.2002: http://www.ambafrance-ca.org/english/press/dosactual/en_iraq.htm "France therefore renounced the concept of automatic use of force" However it's hard to find old documents about 1441 since this string is contained in millions of web pages.

So what the hell was John Nwgroponte talking about - Please tell me you have clicked on my link otherwise this is a pointless discussion.
Ive read 1441 by the way asshole and it is wide open to interpretation. This has been confirmed by Lawyers on both sides of the pond. You can pretty much read it how you want. But when there is footage of a high level US politician saying that resolution 1441 does not mean war I cant see why anyone is still arguing about it. Let it go inny. 1441 does not imply war it implies serious consequences.

This is your problem inny - You live in a world of certainties and they are all wrong!
So whats your take on what John Negroponte actually said. Are you denying he said it?
look up serious and consequences in any dictionary - You wont find the word war there I bet. Serious consequences = War = limited warmongering imagination.

that's a rebellion? The American revolution was a rebellion, that was just a normal vote in the US.

i know one certainty and that's that we have the support of approx 45 countries which include approx 15 muslim nations.

i'm sure he said it but it's BS because they've only been talking about it since the 15-0 vote. Besides you keep saying all this about them taking out the automatic attack but you've failed to show me where it says that in 1441. You must have missed that when you were reading it, or is it common in your parts to make resolutions based on side comments?

what in you're little mind would be Serious consequences? are you going to be the guy to tickle him to death?
you're getting desperate now, i love arguing with you but you're gaining no ground. You can rip on me all you want because i actually find it funny and entertaining, hell i do it myself. But i'm starting to show pity and that isn't good. Face it, you're beliefs stem from the hate of Bush, the United States and Western Values. Just admit it and move on.

Yeah, I never liked France. But every country acts in its own interest, and France is looking to secure Iraqi oil whether or not Saddam remains in power.

I think your interpreting things wrong and I don't say that lightly since I know you to be a highly critically thinking person.
I believe France is taking the stance of being willing to clean up the mess we are about to make there and making sure that the US dosen't try to grab the oil.
While I am no lover of France, I am not about to just do the old support your troop thing......

That's the REAL reason France is acting this way. France is the one with the most to lose economicly if Iraq has problems. Blood for oil is a myth, otherwise you would see Frenchmen bleeding to death. France benefits from Iraqi oil more than the US.
France has acted in a manner that is destructive to their relationship with other nations, losing many allies in the process. French leaders have not done their job in the protection of French citizens from violent foreign threats. France plays whatever politcal role it can to seem the most powerful. France is a powerless nation except in its history books. France, along with much of Europe, is jealous that Americans have more freedoms(not counting drug laws) and therefore have the ability to be more happy. France takes no moral stance on any issues.
They can have their own "opinion" but opinions that are wrong kill people. This isn't about which ice cream tastes best, it is a moral issue with a clear right and wrong side. Discovering what the right thing to do is should be the job of France's leaders, for the sake of the French people. They need a true statesman, something rare to find in a leader these days.
Screw France, screw John Ashcroft, and screw stupid people and FOX. But most of all screw Saddam and other murderous thugs who do not defend and uphold the liberty of their own people. Democracy and peace are great things, but the most important concept is liberty, without which true peace and true happiness cannot be found.

I agree.
-------------------- To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.' Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence. Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains. Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.
