wtf does caffeine do?
    #12975492 - 07/30/10 02:22 AM (13 years, 6 months ago)

I can drink 4 shots of espresso and feel absolutely no different than before I drank it.

How does caffeine keep people awake at night?

I used to think I never was affected by coffee, but then I had 3 shots and was shaky as all hell and really alert. Maybe you have some crazy high natural tolerance? Basically, it should make you feel awake and alert

if u had a huge meal or if they were decaff, then obviously you won't be even remotely as affected.
just take straight no-doz caffiene pills (200mg) then you should see how they help
amps beat the hell out of caffiene tho since caffiene makes you all jittery and paranoid if you take too much
combining a bit of both is good too since caffiene is so cheap

caffeine interferes with adenosine which is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, believed to play a role in promoting sleep and suppressing arousal, with levels increasing with each hour an organism is awake. Eventually it still binds to enough sites tho and caffeine does less thangs for you. Which is why its clearly an inferior stimulant than things like meff.

also not all coffee's are created equal, the roast level plays a big role in the caffeine level as well as where the coffee was grown, and the strain ect.

Adenosine is produced from ATP (which is the universal energy source) and an increase in adenosine concentraion tells the brain that its tired. Caffeine is a adenosine receptor antagonist i.e. prevents the brain from estimating the the level of free adenosine.

It also acts as a non-specific phosphodiesterase inhibitor. The cells need a cyclic from of adenosinmonophospate (cAMP) to operate. The hippocampus for examlpe needs it for the formation of new neural connections and thus memory. Caffeine blocks the enzyme which hydrolyses cAMP back t AMP.

Yah there is no end to the amount of detail to this stuff. In the ends its just atoms doing thangs tho.  :awesome:

4 shots of espresso is a moderate amount of caffeine. other than that i dunno.  i feel it.

also pretty much everyone i know that says coffee doesn't effect them, doesn't fall asleep after drinking it.

conversation goes like this "are you sure you should drink that coffee, its 10 oclock at night"
"coffee doesn't effect me"

2am, now to sleep.
