get a tie dye kit from the crafts store. it's $15-20 and has all the instructions and the proper dye

I gave away a couple in the marketplace earlier this week




I'm quite proud of my work but seeing as I'm brand new to the art of the tye dye
and was just goofing around I didn't feel right about charging $ for them

they look amazing. i wouldnt wear one at the moment, but the day that cannabis is legalized or deciminilized in UK is the day i put on a awesome tie dye and smoke the fattest joint i can hold:awehigh:

I traded a tie dye for my first lsd experience. It was well worth it :yesnod:   

but wear gloves if your working with those chemicals, they'll tear your hands up.

sew it, then pull the thread till that fabric is in a straight line.  A heart for example, fold a shirt in half, draw half a heart with a fabric pen, or pencil, then sew it with a consistent stitch. The size of the stitch determines how wide the dye is. You'll understand more about it once you've done it once. That's how I did all those designs. You can even do a simple wave much easier this way too.  Just remember to have a dark enough line so that you can see the line is straight on the folded fabric, Then put tight rubber bands on both sides, and remember to dye that with an appropriate color so that it is apparent that the design starts at that mark. Take that bear I did, the black is clearly the outermost portion of the design, even though a dark red is behind it, black remains the dominant color.  It's all about contrast.

oh, the fabric folds itself when sewing, but make sure to make sure the folds are evenly distributed so you get nice consistent spacing.  With consistent sewing  it will be almost automatic though.

Thanks guys. Its only like my third time doing it. I did a couple shirts and a skirt that turned out sweet. I think I'm just going to hang it on my wall and take it to festivals. It's too small for my bed.

The sewing tip is awesome. I'm going to have to try it.

Nice! Good to see tie dye didn't die.  When I was about 12 or 13 (1969), my older sister was learning tie dye and doing it in the washing machine.:rolleyes: My mother did a whole load of whites after this experiment, and everything came out pinkish/green/ mud colored. Sheets, towels, underwear, everything. Needless to say, Mom flipped out. My sis used to make 'fried marbles' jewelry, too. Hippies :shrug: :heart: . . . :peace:
