Multiple Use Lid

Prototype autoclavable plastic lid - with triple spaced Tyvek gas exchange filters & resealing injection port.

The advantage of this prototype is that it can be used for liquid cultures, spore inoculation into WBS/Grains and/or G2G transfers, all with a single lid, as you please.

3 separated layers of Tyvek cover a 5/8 th inch hole in the lids center. Each layer is separated by 1/16 th of an inch -- air space between them. The purpose being that if a liquid culture is made in the jar. The jar can be agitated violently & the 2 uppermost Tyvek layers do not get wet, because of the spacing -- between them.

The spacing material is an autoclavable rubber composite that can be repeatedly injected through. The red dot indicates the position of a separate 1/4 inch hole in the lid, covered with the same material holding the Tyvek tightly in place.

That area can be pierced with an 18 gauge needle & when the needle is withdrawn, the material reseals. Consequently, one may use it for spore inoculation into a liquid culture medium, autoclaved WBS / grains, or G2G.

Is it not rather difficult to shove grain thru that opening , during G2G transfers ?

Ya do G2G under quasi/clean conditions and/or a with a flow hood. Ya just unscrew the lil sumbitch lid & shovel a couple table spoons full in, then - replace the lid.

Aren't you the guy that told me ya never got off on POT, because the SEEDS always plugged up the needle  :grin:?

Damn I was hoping you developed some sort of teletransporter to go along with that bitchin lid , thus reducing the chances of contams during G2Gs .
So you are telling me unscrew the fn lid like with the old crappy lids that come with jars ?
Like the concept though for injection inocs , too bad I made choice to stay away from those , I like prints to agar and such .

Right now the same type material is being tested, to see if it can be vulcanized to the lid surface. That way no screws/nuts are required to hold it in place & manufactor would be greatly simplified. Also looking at a source of these lids, by the "K". And/or simply having then made by an injection mold company by the "K". Only time will tell, if these will be available enmass & at affordable price.

From rocketry exp , most modern plastics vulcanize nicely together as long as compatible temps to fuse them are there .....yadda yadda !

With a triple Tyvek filter installed on the lid, not much is going to gain entry, under any circumstance - excepting gas exchange.

But, I would do the coffee filters, as a dust cover - anyway. They are not needed & are simply an added precaution that costs almost nada & only take a moment to apply.

remember your screw idea for the last version of this lid?

make a 1/2 inch hole, get a bolt sheered off to fit it, get it hot and screw it in to the hole to make a good tight seal. then you can unscrew it by hand, put in the grain, and reduce risk of contams.

I got those rubber seals today, filter patches and plastic lids. Just need to get some grommets at work today and i'm set. Since i'm only working with syringes and rye grain jars, i think that the original lids you described (version 2 if i remember right) are going to work great for me.

Great idea. ANd i'm still here if you want me to send some to you for aproval.
just let me know, and i'll send some hi res pics of the lid, both sides and assembly pics.

They are harsh ........ You are in a subtle way bashing him and trying to shoot down his ideas by moking him in public , not very professional in my eyes .
And so what if he markets a compost ......... if shit has value people will pay , does that make him greedy ......... NO this is America , it is what makes us great ! If they are happy buying from him ..........so be it , no need to get all pissy .
I do not know him on personal level , but I do not believe 6T is NOT relying on this as a sole means of income , it is for fun , and hell if pays for his little experiments , and cushions his bank account .......... well more POWER TO HIM !
