I can't find much info on how to prepare, what to expect, etc.

I understand I should be in withdrawal when I go in.

I'm not sure what degree of WD that means.

I may take a hyrdocodone tonight.

I hope that doesn't matter.

they'll probably start you off at 40mg, no take home doses, supervised while you take it.

depending on your level of addiction, 40mg might not be enough to keep withdrawals away.

they will also drug test you the first time, and this is a test you want to fail, otherwise they wont give you anything. after failing the first drug test for some opiate, you will be further drug tested, but should not have anything but methadone after a certain time, otherwise they'll kick you out.

also expect to find people outside the clinic selling their 'done and dope.

so you're going to take one hydrocodone, and that will make your withdrawals go away? if this is true, dont even bother going to the methadone clinic, you'll walk away with a monkey on your back that you didnt need. you could just titrate off with hydrocodones if you have enough, if the above is true. methadone clinics are kind of a last resort, you simply cant stop shooting dope, and are going to be trading one addiction for another one. and everything ive seen and heard, methadone addiction/withdrawal is much worse than heroin.

consider your options before doing this. and dont do this if you are simply looking for a way to get drugs/high.

Yeah, I totally agree about not going for methadone unless it's a last resort.

Thanks for the cautious and sensible advice.  I really do appreciate it.

It sounds like you are speaking from experience too, which is really what I was hoping to get from this thread:

other people's experience that they can offer me, especially pertaining to what a first visit to a methadone clinic might entail.

I have already made my mind up to go.  To make a long story short, the pros seem to outweigh the cons on this one.

I have been abusing poppy pods for about a month.  I have kept my tolerance relatively low: something like 7-8 large pods in a tea every morning. 

For the past year or so, I have gone on and off pods and other opiates dozens of times.  I am pretty sure I could kick on my own without the methadone, but I'd just get back on pods again soon.

I am sick of craving opiates all the time, and I really can't afford to go to jail.

I believe MMT will benefit me and give me some balance at this juncture in my life.

I am worried that I'll get turned away if I go.

I read something a clinic can only treat 100 patients at a time.

I don't know if my town's clinic has reached the maximum.

My friend called them for me the other day, and asked them some good questions.

They said to just come down there with $12 at 5 AM Monday, but I didn't ask about whether the treatment is even available.

All in all I'm pretty amazed at how methadone seems to be the cure to all my ails.

7-8 large pods is a decent dose(IMO).

Could you give us some details on what they asked you/if you have to take your dose there/etc? Would be beneficial possibly in the future for myself.

I'm interested in more details as well.  When I was young I remember being taught that methadone was a heroin substitute that didn't get you high, but I've heard from others that it actually still fucks you up pretty well.

It does "fuck you up", to a certain extent, just like all opiates. But also just like all over opiates there comes a time where it doesn't fuck you up as much as it maintains you.

I was more interested in the maintenance part of the chemical, as well as what is to be expected at a 'done clinic.

I have to take my dose there.  They gave me 25 mgs yesterday.  Today I got to up it to 30 mgs, and I think I can up it to 35 mgs tomorrow.  I am not really sure about all the rules about things yet, as my assigned counselor set up a meeting to go over the details tomorrow.  She said I could go ahead and dose yesterday, and that sounded good to me (especially after chewing my nails throughout the 4 hour intake process which involved getting a TB shot and getting blood drawn).

A cool old dude named George interviewed me in order to decide if I should undergo treatment.  He asked me about my drug use.  I told them I had been drinking a shitload of pod tea.  He looked confused and said, "how about I just write down OC's?"  I clearly got the feeling that they were just going through the motions.

It's actually kind of surreal looking back on the last couple of days.  I don't thik I'm better than anybody else or anything, but most of the clientelle there seem to be non-motivated white-trashy types.  Having always figured that was the way it was, it is kind of strange reflecting on how many of my problems seem to be solved (at least temporarily), now that I humbled-down enough to put myself in MMT.

I like the fact that methadone is so long-acting.  I can just take my drug in the morning, go to work and get down like no other.  I've been running circles around my co-workers.  Methadone geeks me up much the same way that Lortabs, OCs, and poppy pod tea do.  Most people get sleepy.

I feel better than I ever have.  Even when I used to score decent amounts of pills, I never got any peace of mind because I was always worried about how my supply was running out.  Shit couldn't be better.  I hope I can get some overtime at work soon, cause I'm totally down.  Working has become fun, even though a nigger's having to work construction in the deep south, outside in the summer.

Ive been hooked on poppy pod tea for a year now and I was going to do the same thing as you but my knowledge of methdadone withdrawal is what keeps me from doing it.  Poppy pod WD is hell enough and if methadone is considered to be a lot worse Im good.  Good luck though.

Yeah, I hear that.  I considered that con too, but still went with methadone for several reasons:

1) Now I don't have to worry about putting my habit in to the hands of a random "dried floral" vendor.  Too many times I expected my package at a certain time and was forced into withdrawals when I didn't receive it.

2) The process of brewing PPT is tiresome.  Every night I had to grind pods, heat water to 164 F, then get all that shit in a thermos.  Then in the morning, I'd strain it, bottle it, and save the mash for Saturday's big 2nd pull.

3) No constant drug test worries.  I will pass my company's standard 5 panel test on methadone.

4) No laws broken now.  Even though people are rarely, if ever arrested for possession of pods, the opium poppy is Sch I in America.

5) There is more stability in my life.  Methadone's half-life is 24-36 hours.  Pod tea lasts longer than any other opiate I've ever done, but it doesn't come close to methadone.

6) I know exactly what's in my system, and exactly how much methadone is my system.  With pods, it's a guessing game.

7) I have a doctor's approval.

OMFG I cannot agree with you more on that.  I absolutely loathe the process of making tea when I'm in withdrawal.  I dont even have the energy to move during WD let alone have to do the vulcan death grip on a T Shirt 20 times just to get all the liquid through it.
