Ebay is a scam
    #12708787 -

Wow, selling stuff on ebay is a ripoff.

I listed a buy it now price of .99 each with a 1000 available. I got charged .50 for the posting and than .12 per sale. Additionally if it's paid for by paypal, paypal charges .35 per sale. So for each sale, .47 in fees are being charged on a .99 sale... That's absolutely insane and that's not including a fixed cost of .50 for the posting. I made one sale and if that's all I make I will net a mere .02.

Now how's that for irony. Ebay really did pay me for my two cents (at full value)...

Yeah I've never sold anything on eBay but it seems the direction they've gone is to totally fuck the seller. Can't even leave feedback for buyers.

I sold a concert ticket at the face value of £45. I decided I wasn't interested in profit, I just wanted to shift the damn thing because the show wasn't far away.
Ebay for some reason charged me about £5 for the listing.
Fuck them.
Canceled my ebay + paypal account. There's no reason for it anyway.
Ebay is the one place on the internet where things arn't actually cheaper.

It is in fact, irony. The whole point of my posting was to make some money. After the fees, I was left with .02. That's nearly 98% in fees. That my friend is irony, the contrapositive of what I had intended.

If it makes you feel any better I fucked ebay over for probably like 50 bucks and I fucked paypal over for almost $1000.  They made the mistake of giving a heroin addict a credit card.

Ebay may have weird pricing, and may not work for selling many low cost items... but it's not a scam. Maybe you were too lazy to read and fully understand the fee structure?

There is probably a much better way to sell them uning ebay, and I'm sure you could have found it if you tried.

You posted 1000 items, you made 2 cents on your first item sold.  If you sell the rest, it will equal much more than 2 cents.

What is ironic, is that someone who is trying to make money using somebody else's service would bitch about them making money to provide that service.

Wow, the pub has turned dark, I almost feel like I'm in OTD...

As for the fee structures, I'll admit I read them a very long time ago and hadn't realized they were as high as they were. I was aware of the .50 posting fee and the .12 per sale fee. Both of which I felt was reasonable. I wasn't aware of the paypal fee (at .35 per sale).

Lesson learned.

I hadn't thought of craigslist, but maybe I'll give it a shot. Is there a way to list a national or international listing? I don't want to limit the sale to just a single city or locale. I'll explore it a bit more. However, craigslist seems a bit scam-y to begin with. It's hard to find relevant and real material on there, it doesn't seem to be actively policed or enforced. Ebay is a little better, however I guess I'm paying for that.

Ebay as a buyer is incredible though, so no complaints on that side!

It just seems all the early days of sellers fucking buyers has forced eBay to shift it the other way. Now it just sucks to sell there.
