Jimi Hendrix at The Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Before he went on, it is confirmed that he dropped 2 tabs of "Monterey Purple" LSD before going on. This was a specially made batch made just for this festival that was being handed out for free to everyone in the crowd by its producer.

Naturally, like most LSD of that era, it was of extraordinary potency. So Hendrix played this entire show tripping his nuts off, as people interviewed who were at the show were said to have been blown away by 1 of the tabs.

Prince is kind of egotistical with his playing style. I was more impressed with the dude to the left of Petty who was playing lead before the solo. His playing was built out of a calm stillness that gave him some really nice play on the negative space. He had a nice voice, too, but I didn't recognize him... wondering if I should... heh.

Yeah Prince was a bit over-the-top, especially at the end when he left the stage. The guy with the amazing voice is Jeff Lynne.

Oh, MUST POST this...

Tom Traubert's Blues by Tom Waits... this live performance seriously beats the pants off the album version. And the quality is phenomenal. His voice is captured better in this than I've ever heard it otherwise.

Jimi @ Monterey was probably the greatest performance in the history of the Universe, I'm glad someone posted it up before me. Jimi took over the world with that concert. That version of Killing Floor makes my brain bleed. He was apparently on STP (or DOM) as well at Monterey, some crazy shit that caused a lot of problems because the doses were so high, but Jimi had no troubles with it.

2nd would probably be his performance with the Band of Gypsy's at the Fillmore, January 1st.
