I'd imagine you can share anything you own the copyrights to
or anything that doesn't have copyrights...
there are a lot of public domain songs out there
"twinkle, twinkle, little star", etc.

I'm not too sure anymore. The company that produced hurt locker (voltage pictures) just said they're trying to get the names of 5,000 people to sue for torrenting the movie...so that's kinda sketching me out a bit.

I know the chances are slim, but still.

Pretty sure they're just talking out of their asses.

"Boohoohoo, my movie has been made more popular due to torrenting, Woe is me!"

I pirate a lot of shit but if the product is really good, I'll definitely buy it. In this day and age, it's not like I'll buy some half assed CD before listening to it first. That would be ridiculous and a waste of money.

Really though. They pretty much swept all the awards from anyone else. You'd think they wouldn't give a shit about a few people downloading their movie for free.

I pretty much watch all my tv shows via eztv.  Pretty convenient.

I doubt it's legal, but as far as I know the tv companies are not making a fuss about it like some of the music and movie industry is.

Smart people who pirate online = don't want to be ripped off.

There's far too much garbage entertainment to take the risks especially with the economy being shit.

Now there are a lot of people who simply pirate and never buy anything but I believe most people like to own physical copies of whatever medium they love. Which is why I never buy songs on iTunes either. I think that mostly for mainstream artist lovers who have 1 good song on the entire CD though.

It always pisses me off hearing about companies wanting to sue people for downloading their stuff. They obviously have no idea as to why people do this and think they just want to rip them off. They're idiotic.

I rarely ever torrent movies or tv shows anymore because I got a letter from my ISP threatening legal action.

Whether they were bullshitting or not, I'm not taking that chance.

Now I just get movies from Netflix and use HandBrake to rip them onto the computer. Better quality, no chance of being sued.

They are pretty much using scare tactics to make a profit, they will send out mail saying  " If you don't pay X amount, we will bring you to court where you will pay Y(This being much more)" People not wanting to go to court will pay the X amount. But what people don't know is that, they have no intention to go to court as the hole process is lengthy and costly, they are merely trying to instill fear in people to make them pay up. A commonly used tactic by anti-piracy groups.

Nothing to fear.

Exactly.  I wouldn't be unhappy buying entertainment products if most of them weren't garbage.  The Hurt Locker may have won a bunch of awards, but I still thought it was shit.  Does that mean I would get my money back if I bought it?  No.

I like having the option to pay for things that I find worthwhile, and not have to waste money on things that I also find a waste of my time.
