Space Shuttle landing....

First of all, happy 420 all.

So, I'm fucking smoking a bowl of some awesome sour diesel this morning at like eight-thirty est when I hear these booms in quick succession that basically sound like the world is finally going to end. Every dog in the neighborhood starts howling and these booms just kind of echo off into the morning.

Of course, having lived on the east coast of Florida my whole life, I of course knew it was the space shuttle breaking the sound barrier, but still, for like two seconds (probably as a result of diesel) I was convinced South Korea or something had decided to use their nukes.

Hahaha! I forgot about the shuttle landing today.

I live in central Florida, but we can still hear it quite well.

I though a big ass tree branch fell on my roof until i remembered the landing was today.

I bet nasa was like it's 4/20, lets land the shuttle today and scare all the stoners.

thats pretty awesome that you got to hear it. i kinda wish i could up here in new england but... ahaha


one time (i forget EXACTLY how it happened but) i was staying at my friends house. i woke up to an air raid siren.

immediately i was thinking HOLY FUCK. so i run to his room i'm like DUDE WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!

he had just moved in so he didnt know either. so we sat down on the couch and started smoking. :facepalm:



few weeks later he tells me its the firehouse, they do it most every morning 3 to 5 times a day.

still not 100% sure why.

I live relatively close to a NASA facility that assembles and tests all of those rocket engines. They have to have a few miles worth of forest(think suburban deep south... forest means 95% 80m tall pine trees) surrounding the campus for noise pollution protection. I don't live that close to it, but I've been around the area and it's really fucking scary when it happens.

meh, it's kind of like watching a small airplane land. The cool part is definitely the sonic boom. It just scares the shit out of you if you aren't expecting it. And it always seems to happen really early in the morning too. I've been ripped out of a deep sleep by thoughts of world Armageddon more than a few times only to realize it's just the shuttle.


BTW, this whole area (the space coast of Florida) is going to go to shit once the shuttle program ends. That kind of sucks
