Outdoor Patch - Slugs, snails, centipedes, milipedes, rollie-polies, potato bugs, pill bugs.
    #12349858 -

Slugs, snails, centipedes, milipedes, rollie-polies, potato bugs, pill bugs.

Which ones should concern me and how do I rid my patches of them using natural methods??

Inexpensive/free methods if possible!!

Thanks

Copper is a good slug repellant

i think slugs might be your number one concern. i may be wrong however. i fairly certain that slugs love fungus.

you can stop them with lots of tried and true methods. check out gardening websites. beer works, you pour it in a tray or frisbee and place it near you patch. the slugs go in, drink up and die of either drowning or alcohol poisoning.

that's right, you might want to make a circle of bare copper wire around the patch if its not too big

A cayenne pepper/salt mix and create a hefty circle around grow area.

Should be good for slugs, snails and nosey dogs. Im not sure about the rest of your critters.

They have this grow screen in garden stores that lets in shaded light, air and water. I imagine it would keep away any aerial attacks and create a nice grow invironment. it should be relatively cheap.

The screen can maybe be tucked into the earth around the grow area to stop the creepy crawlies.

Ive seen it in use on some mega azure grow a while back. Wish i could remember the link.

Dr. Egon Spengler: Print is dead.

Janine Melnitz: Oh, that's very fascinating to me. I read a lot myself. Some people think I'm too intellectual but I think it's a fabulous way to spend your spare time. I also play raquetball. Do you have any hobbies?

Dr. Egon Spengler: I collect spores, molds, and fungus.

what he said works like a charm (about the beer). Otherwise consider providing habitat for one of these or a related species: http://www.californiaherps.com/lizards/pages/e.c.principis.html

Make a cocktail of coffee and tobacco. Both nicotine and caffeine are natural poison for defense against herbivores and parasites. You could just douse the ground around with it, or put some shallow pans of it with sugar around the site, since the sugar will attract them, and the caffeine and nicotine will paralyze or kill them.

Okay lots of options then.

I was also reading about Damascus soil.
